Well the clean slate is over after 55,000 miles, I finally got pulled over on the Speedmaster for the first time after 4 years. I did get off with an official signed warning though instead of a ticket. Mr LEO said(ALLEGEDLY) that there was only 2-3 car lengths between me and the oncoming car he was behind when I made my pass by that slow moving camper in the other lane down a 2 lane highway about 20 miles north of Flagstaff, Az. As soon as I begged to differ, he gave me "that look". You know the one...where if you push it any further, he's going to the hard ticket instead of just the warning.

Thing is though, I was fully aware of what was going on, and I KNOW there was a good 100-200 feet in front of me before I ducked back into my own lane. I mean, if what he said was true, I would have had to pull off the road and change my shorts if that car in front of him was only 20 feet away from ramming me head on. But what are you goin' to do when he's just writing you up for a warning? No sense arguing the point, but it still torqued my jaw a notch. I mean, I drive a bit more careful than usual when I'm 400 miles from home and I'm riding by myself. I just don't take chaces like that. Egghhhh, anyway, he was just a young state trooper so I guess he needs to be house trained. I'll leave that to Becky since he was in her juridsdiction.

Water's wet, fire's hot, and cops act like that. It's just one of those things.

Isn`t it comforting to know that wherever in the world you go there is an a....h...e copper waiting to pull you up on some petty bullsh.. thing instead of going out and catching a real live criminal of which the world is full of.

But seriously...if you were about 150 feet from the oncoming car...that's much closer than it sounds. If you each were going 60 mph towards each other, you were less than 1 second away from killing yourself and most likely the person in the other car.

Sounds like you should be thankful you are alive with only a written warning.

Well it wouldn't have even been that close if the guy in the camper didn't speed up when I went to pass. He was cruisin' along at 60 in a 65, and when I went around he was over 65. And since I'm on a rant in this thread...it seems like I'm seeing this more and more. You go to pass and they speed up, which is especially common when there's a section with a passing lane. Stupid cagers!

When the new big twin comes out you'll have no problem zipping around those land whales on the highway.

Ride safe.

I've noticed that speed up sydrome also...get by someone going 5-10 under, and by the time you've passed them you're 10-15 over and they are on your butt. Yeah, #%$^$& cagers!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?

I will join the rant and add that I see the same thing here and the ones who tailgate you after this are the worst. I have passed people going 10 mph under the limit and then while riding 5 to 10 mph over the limit (10 to 15 mph on my speedo) they are right on my behind.

Ditto. I've noticed that when I get alongside them they read the tank badge and then the race is on...

Ditto, ditto, but they never have a chance to read the tank badge when I crack MY throttle. Sounds like your bike needs a tune up Mark....

They're just trying to get a better look at your Speedy or TBA.

And then there are the ones who start to pass then stay beside you until you catch up to slower moving traffic and have to brake then they go on. Must be real funny!

I hear that. When I pass it's always WOT top of the RPM range.
