I have my gas tank off for another work I am doing. I am looking for the tiny fuel filter thats burried near the carbs and I figured maybe I should pull it out and clean it. Does anyone know where it is? There was a discussion about this once and even a picture but I can't find the thread.

follow thw gas line down from the tank, where it connects to the "T" in the carbs is the secret location. Put your super secret decoder ring on setting 5 and it comes out.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Anyone ever do that drag specialties replacement? And if so, where and how did they mount it?

Drag specialties makes 2 sizes. Get the small one that fits hose size 5/16. Mount it vertically after the bend from the petcock. Remove the hidden filter from the "T". The only reason its there is to force you to take the bike back to the shop because you're not supposed to know about it when it starts to plug.

Hey moe. Thanks for the pix. Now I am trying to figure out how to pull the tube without removing the carbs. Its really burried in there.

I eyeballed my filter when moving my throttle cables last weekend. Decided there was no way to reach/remove the filter without pulling the carbs loose. I'll save it for a winter job. I guess pull the tiny factory filter, add the Drag Specialties filter after the petcock to avoid future clogs?

Guys, you do not have to pull the carbs. Really. You should pull the tank though. I know as I pulled that lit'l filter without removing the carbs. Use your fingers to remove the hose clamp. The hard part is getting the filter back in, but some sort of dowel rod to help guide it back home worked for me. Yes it is tight quarters in there, but it has been done!

Use a pair of those generic store extra long needle nose pliers (the ones with the orange handles) They are cheap. Does the trick. If you wish, put a little masking tape on the gripping surfaces so you do not pinch the hose.

Yes hemostats, like the ones they sell at wally world to remove fish hooks will work also. Like they said its tight in there. After taking mine out the second time I decided an inline filter was a better solution. Not much room for the inline filter either but there are several that will work. I think I have a barnet one in there now.

Hemostats, nippleclamps, potato, potahto... Call em what you will, they make a GREAT 3rd hand in tight spots.
