That won't work on the Trumph engine. The valve pockets are too deep and fit to close to the spring. Too bad nobody copied the Crosley design. That had a slot in the cam follower for shim stock (think long strips of feeler guage blades). If the valves needed adjustment you pull out all the shim stock, measure the clearance, and then mix and match 1 1/4 inch strips of whatever shim stock you had to bring it in spec. Stuff it all in the slot, bend the ends to keep it there and you're done.
