What is valve adjustment? Does anyone have a link on how to do it and what the specs are for our bikes?

Not to discourage you, but if you have to ask this question, I would recommend you leave the job to someone else. If you're brave, look at the big bore part of my site and it shows most of it. If that intimidates you, back away from the tools!

The way we used to adjust valves on the first water pumper VW's (Rabbits & Dashers c.1974/5) was to use a hand held, Y shaped spring compressor to push down the bucket. Then, we plucked the shim from there with "pliars" which looked much like snap ring pliars with about a 30* bend on the long, skinny ends.
Isn't there enough room on top the twin engine head to do this? Seems like a real pain to remove the cam bearing caps!
From the pics posted above, it looks as though this method could be used on the outer valves, but maybe the inner ones are too "buried. did anyone ever answer this question. Is it possible.

That won't work on the Trumph engine. The valve pockets are too deep and fit to close to the spring. Too bad nobody copied the Crosley design. That had a slot in the cam follower for shim stock (think long strips of feeler guage blades). If the valves needed adjustment you pull out all the shim stock, measure the clearance, and then mix and match 1 1/4 inch strips of whatever shim stock you had to bring it in spec. Stuff it all in the slot, bend the ends to keep it there and you're done.
