I hear when these babies were still on the ol' drawin' board Mr. Bloor asked the boys at Lucas Electronics LTD where he could find some o' that there stuff, but decided their version of "character" was a little TOO MUCH for today's machines, so he went with another firm which supplied just the right amount of it.
(there IS such a thing as "heritage" ya know, kid!)
