I've sung the praises of this alarm, the one in the Triumph accessories catalog, as being reliable, useful, giving me happy nights sleep in the 14 months it has been installed.
Until recently.
On my VT trip a few weeks ago the alarm went off once in the morning for no reason. I thought maybe a bird tripped it. The next weekend I was away, and the Speedy was home for the weekend annoying the neighbors as the alarm kept going off for no reason. Apparently for some 24 hours straight, with 10 or 15 minute intervals of peace and quiet.
My not-soon-enough-ex wife told me this story a few days after I got back and I didn't really think about it, supposing she'd tried to mess with it and it just didn't like her.
Last Thursday night the alarm started up around 9 PM. Then 10. Then 1015. Then it would wait as long as necessary until it KNEW I'd tired of staring at it waiting for it to go off, watched me walk back in the house, removed my shorts and laid back on the bed. BEEP BEEP BEEP.
I've mentioned once or twice the fun of this alarm and it's internal battery, meaning no ability to just yank a fuse or wire and shut it up. At 2 am I gave up, locked the forks, pulled the headlight and taillight fuses so I wouldn't drain the battery, put a band-aid over the oil-indicator light and just left the key in the RUN position all night to silence the thing.
Next...to the dealer. Please, save me from my neighbors. I was told they have a 2 week wait on repairs.
2 hours later my phone rang. 10 minutes after I'd left, the alarm started up. They tried pressing the buttons to reset it with no luck. Removed the alarm from the bike (as I'd requested if they couldn't fix it ON the bike) and tried to make the repair in the comfort of their office with the wailing siren still going full volume. Eventually gave up and physically disabled the thing somehow.
So, now I have a very expensive paperweight, at least until I contact the company about a solution/resolution.
