Calling all brake gurus. I've posted an ad in the classifieds seeking a TBS front hub for the dual disc conversion, but that project will cost somewhere near a grand.
What I'm looking at in this thread is a sort of ROI analysis. Do the sintered pads and floating rotor kit that Brent sells even come close to a (stock) dual disc set up? (Obviously dual floating rotors with sintered pads should beat stock dual discs.) Bellacorse lists some fancier components but apparently they only fit the T-100 and Thruxton. Is the $770 difference between Brent's kit and the stock dual discs worth the cost? Are there any other options for our bikes?
I'm asking because I got in trouble a couple times in BC last weekend due to brake fade. My bike runs outstanding but the brakes are seriously lacking. I'm running the sintered pads on stock rotors.

Try this link for beringer brakes, a French (spit) company who offer 4 and 6 piston calipers as well as other stuff. The link is to their cattle dog, page 12 is for Triumph products. There is also a US site but I did not see a link to a cattle dog. http://www.beringer.fr/cat/caten.pdfCheers, Cruser

I do when casually riding but during more... spirited... riding this weekend I don't think I did (during panic stops).

Okay FriarJohn, this is a wild one. What if you reversed the fork legs? That would put the caliper in front of the right leg. The extra cooling air would probably reduce your brake fade. The best part is it's almost free. Only costs your wrenching time.

They do list parts for our bikes, but has anyone used them? I'm hoping for first hand experience with the improvement.

Just did some more looking, Bonneville Performance have them advertised, they may be able to give you some feedback, they only had pics of Bonnies but may be able to confirm availability for the BA & SM.

Yeah, that's not going to work for me. That vendor and I don't get along (long story).

Have you thought about adapting a metric sportbike 4 piston caliper?

Do you know of any that bolt on? I'm not really in a position to fabricate anything to make it work. Beringer lists a 6-pot caliper for our bikes, the Aerotec H12A. Have to find out what that costs. "Looks" expensive.

If you went with the Beringer, would have to change your master cylindar too? Or would the stock one work ok.

I replaced my front disc with the ECB Floating Rotor and Sintered Pads. I also replaced the front springs with some Progressive Dual Rate. Overall my bike stopping capability is so much superior to stock. Can't see where or when I would need more capability. I would try this route first and see how it works for you.

Not any right off hand. It's my belief that a lot of the metric parts are shared and not original "off the die" parts and I suspect there's a direct bolt-on replacement already being used on a different badged bike. Have to locate the OEM caliper manufacturer first, but, hey, that's what the internet's for...

Well, today I had lunch with Dale (Roadtrip) from Billings and he was kind enough to let me take his new '07 Speedy for a spin around the block.
Oh, I definitely need dual discs...
