I'm a member of a local triumph group called RATBAGS, I ride with them sometimes when I'm not working. They were invited to host a bike show as part of a small agricultural show in a country town about an hour's ride from me... ride thru the main street, carry the local "dairy princess" etc on the back of the bikes, and so on. About 50 Triumphs of varying type and age (meridan & hinkley) were there.
I'd pretty much decided to give it a miss as I was dead tired from lots of overtime at work but Stewart (SRS) talked me into going. I've never considered entering my bike into a show, and hadn't even washed it for 2-3 weeks. Long story short, I walked away with a trophy for best presented bike and a voucher for a free service (oh and a phone number for one of the local girls
)! Stewart scored too, he got runner-up for the Peoples' Choice award, and he got to carry the girl who gave me the phone number through the parade. (Don't tell his missus tho!
) All in all, the day ended up being a lot better than I expected.
