Sure is a lot of fussing over a bike that doesn't exist... I own an American built Toyota, a Canadian built Plymouth and an American built Chevrolet. All good cars, all full of internationally sourced parts just like Triumphs and Harleys. Might be time to get over it...

If you go to a Mexican restuarant, it is Mexican food, not American food just because it was made in the U.S. If you go to a Mexican restaurant in Italy, it is still Mexican food, not Italian food.
An invalid comparison, and not true anyway.
It may be Mexican style food, but if it's prepared in America, under American standards, and consumed in America, it's American food.
(Same with Italy, Britain, Greece, whatever).
Now, to validate your opinion that that an American made Toyota is still a Japanese car, you could point out that the profits go to Japan. Good.
Still has Americans building them for a decent wage/benefit package and contributing to the American economy.
Better than paying some incompetent yoyo 32 Mil per year to outsource and complain that the American workers make too much money.

Has anyone ever read anything official from Triumph that bikes are actually being manufactured and assembled in Tailand or has it always been assumption? from the people I have talked to (still nothing positively official) most of the parts and the motors for the Bonneville range (including our bikes) are being manufactured there, but are still assembled in G.B.

Soren, the service manager and sales staff at my dealer have known about the Thailand issue for some time. It has also been beaten to death here & on the RAT site.
Thursday, August 31, 2006 Triumph opens second plant in Thailand
Triumph have recently opened their second manufacturing facility there, and may even open a third one within the next one year! The new plant which is already operational, doubles the production capacity of Triumph in Thailand to 100,000 units per annum. Thai-made Triumph motorcycles are sold in that country, and also exported to other countries. India, one of the largest two-wheeler markets in the world, is close by and also has a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Thailand. We wonder if Triumph will also set up a manufacturing unit in India sometime soon…?
Plenty more stuff on this out there if you look for it.

It's been in the Brit press since last year - with pictures.

Yup! It's on page 58 of the Sept. 07 issue of "All Metric-Road Bike". Under the heading "new bikes". It says that within the next 18 months Triumph plans to introduce a bike that will be between 1600cc and 1800cc. Paw

Jeez, it just keeps getting bigger...between 1600cc and 1800cc would be 1700 wouldn't it? That's one of our motors per jug...

It it is that water-cooled triple I saw pix of, they can keep it. I'm looking for an upright twin, air-cooled, 1200-1500cc. Fuel injection is fine. Belt drive, no shaft (chain still fine by me). Betting I won't see a bike like this in the Triumph stable. Can't quite stomach a new HD or Victory.

I heard or read somewhere that Triumph planned to build an enclosed three wheeler based on the Rocket III platform to take advantage of folks in the US who needed more fuel efficient transportation but who were not traditional motorcyclists. (;))

Thats the only thing that would make me trade my bonnie in. But sadly i think we will get some butt ugly water cooled thing. The rocket may be a great bike to ride, but it is a pig to look at, and i fear the new Mid Size cruiser will look just like it.
If its not an air cooled twin or triple then i will stick to what i got.

Same here, although I'm okay with a shaft drive. Victory's seem to run great but that motor is just plain butt-ugly and HD's are just so...well...they're just so HD.

I know what you're sayin' Ed, but I wouldn't turn down ownin' that XR1200 Flattrack lookin' Sportster. I LIKE that bike.
Speakin' o' which, I stopped by the local HD "Megastore"(otherwise known as Bartel's H-D in Marina Del Rey CA) yesterday, and asked the salesman there about that XR1200. He said they wouldn't be coming to the U.S. any time soon. To which I asked 'em to do me a favor and to email Willie G. for me and tell him that he's an idiot!!!

Yes, or anything resembling the original K series Sporty, now that would be way cool. They're just so very BIG TWIN these days, sort of homogenized if you will.

I read somewhere that Triumph could be bringing out a larger cruiser, but there was no mention about it being an America. Probably to take more shine off the HD's

Are these the same dealers who said there would be EFI on the '08 models?
