I had an eye-bolt as a temporary cheap replacement. I got a nut and some face-sealing washers and chopped the bolt down till it was just long enough to get a nut on the back. Worked fine, not as purdy as the chrome one (which I have) but it worked and wasn't plastic or rubber...
