And me!!! As a bassist & bass guitarist this is a fact.
Reading this thread I was pleased to see some legit players mentioned... most notable James Jamerson..... he defined modern bass guitar playin... & Paul McCartney just raised the bar that Jamerson set up. People like Jaco & Wooten are amazing players but self gratifing narcasits... I mean they can play circles 'round me but that's just it... circles. To be a GREAT player you need to play "with" others & "for" the song.
So as far as double bassists go...

Milt Hinton
Bass guitarists... now lookin back I am suprised no one mentioned Phil Lesh (I know I've seen some steel yer faces on here) or Jack Casady and the master of funk (next to Larry Grahm) Bootsy!!
