Totally agree with everything you said.

There are some bands that I enjoy more live than on their albums and vice versa. Unplugged shows almost always really reveal the total talent of an artist since there is usually no fancy mixing or special effect electronics. I have heard some bands on the radio that really destroyed thier own songs doing them unplugged (it's like they are trying too hard rather than relaxing and just playing).
