Phil,

You know global warming is a punishment from GOD onto CONSERVATIVES for allowing LIBERALS to run rampant and multiply on the earth.

My position exactly

Well Paul, just like this general global warming issue itself, and contrary to Larry here, I'm not too sure about the validity of THAT argument either...but I sure thought THAT line was funny as heck, Dude!!!

Same here, I get jokes.

Well, as you probably have noticed after all these years, I AM a little slow on the uptake, but I AM starting to see that "listening to the beanache" could lead to at least some form of enlightenment, Dude!

(operative words here..."some form")

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

fear, its all about fear. its the way we (society) is controlled!!! the powers that be control us with fear. they keep us constently afraid of something and depending on them to protect us. why is mars warming?? the fact is, that if this planet were 2 ft to the left we wouldnt be here at all. so if we are here for 100yr or a million, its not up to us. al gore and his buddies(social/communist) are flying around in there private jets and s.u.v.s telling us we should be rideing bicycles. they are the powerfull, we should do as they say not as they do, they are doing good by spreading the word. be afraid of who wants you to be afraid, there are only a few that make everything happen and it is them we need to fear. since the beginning of time, man has always tried to rule his fellow man. and fear has always been the way to do it. oh i could say so much more but then i would be talkin politics and we all know we dont want that here.hahahahahahahaha but its all about fear people, fear used to control.

That may be true, but again I think the fact that BOTH sides of the argument are focusing on JUST the global warming thing is the problem. There are other bad effects of pollution.

Hey Dwight. how's the smog... I mean "air" in LA these days?

I'm sure Dwight will answer.

But for my take as an occasional visitor to SoCal.
The air seems much cleaner than it was in the '70s before all those government do-gooders forced the auto industry to produce cleaner running automobiles.
And started getting the polluting cars off the road.

Didn't need to, Bill. You pretty much took the words right out of my mouth there, ol' buddy.

(but of course THAT'S never stopped THIS blowhard before..so here goes......)

I've mentioned this before around here, but I remember as a kid sitting the back seat of my Pop's new '62 Cadillac Sedan de Ville(a GORGEOUS and enormous monstosity in dark metalic burgandy and white leather interior) while he drove (and sitting next to him was my Mom riding shotgun) down the San Bernardino Freeway while on our way to Aunt Bess and uncle Frank's home in that city for which that freeway was named. And, coming out through the A/C vents of that Caddy was very cool, very cold even...SMOG...that burned the crap out of my eyes. It was horrible.

I also remember looking past my parents and through the windshield, and I remember noticing that you couldn't see the next overpass crossing over said freeway, even though it was probably less than a mile away...because of the...SMOG.

And NOW, on MOST DAYS of the year, and(as Bill noted above)thanks in large part to the "do-gooders" in this freakin' world, on this same drive east from L.A. one can spot Mt. Baldy from said freeway, some twenty miles to the north. And contrary to all the "total free-market thinkers" out there, this change for the better would have never come about from a "socially-conscious" Auto Industry without the prodding from those "do-gooders".

AND, don't forget there are millions more cars here now than when the dinosaurs...err...I mean, big Caddys "ruled the world".

And so, in conclusion...How the heck do you people THINK I feel about pollution and making people see the freakin' future, ANYWAY???!!!

NOW, is this man-made pollution causing "global warming"??? Heck, I don't know, BUT, NONE of you guys know for sure one way or the other, EITHER! Let me just say that I kind'a like Benny's "closed garage door" metaphor, and THINK that MAYBE it might.......DUDES!!!

Dwight I know what you are talking about. In the early 80's I moved to Riverside, CA. I had lived in my house for about 4 months when one Saturday morning I came outside and to my total amazement there were snow covered mountains in the distance. I went right away and got my ladder and scurried up onto the roof of the house. Before me was a panoramic view of mountains that I never knew existed before. The view was present for all of 2 days and then the normal haze (smog) returned and I didn't see them there mountains again for almost 6 months. Today I would bet that the view of those mountains from my old house is a very common occurrence.

This is the key. Nobody KNOWS for sure, nor can they EVER KNOW for sure if pollution causes global warming. But it is pollution...

There is good news in the progress toward clean air. Diesel fuel for big trucks was 500 ppm of sulfur per gallon. Last year the sulfur content of diesel fuel was reduced to 15 ppm of sulfur. The transition in distribution went very well, and this one program alone will eliminate many millions of tons of burned fuel particulates from the air we breathe.

When used in passenger car applications, the new 15 ppm ultra low sulfur diesel burns so cleanly that it is reported to burn without odor. This will hopefully cause the more fuel efficient than gasoline diesel cars to be accepted by the US public, thereby helping to lower consumption rates of irreplaceable fuel resources as well.

Diesel fuel now is 1.5 to 2ppm the ultra low,low sulfur was 15ppm ,so now if you own a diesel please run an additive of some sort.We have saw nothing but major repair problems with the fuel change,no lubrication and very poor MPG...

True Donny.
The lack of lubricity in the very low sulfur fuels is a real problem for the mechanical parts of the system. I'm sure the engineers will come up with some way to make it work. You'll probably have that information before the construction industry though.
We don't see the problems with the off-road stuff. Yet .

Yeah we see problems all the time now since I work on fuel injection everyday. Most of the high friction parts are ceramic or coated to withstand high temps, fuel additive is your friend use it in every tank!

They say if we keep going the way we are, in 10 years
we'll have Florida's climate here in New England.

I'm thinking about pulling the catalytic converter off
my p/u to speed up the process.
