Re. the 'open or closed valve' question......get as much fluid in the system as you can, i.e. get new fluid trickling out of the bleed. Lock it off, Strap the pedal down overnight to put the system under pressure....you should have some pedal feel in the morning. You'll probably have to bleed some more or do what I did....buy a vac-pump !!!
