I hope this is not a faux pas, venting about my bad vendor experience publicly, but this has been so bad I feel the need to inform everyone and maybe others can share their good experiences if they have them so I won't abandon what may have been a good store. Here's the shortest version possible: I ordered some Clicbag saddlebags along with the mounting brackets three Wednesdays ago for a trip I was leaving on the next week. My first choice was K-drive bags but everyone I could find had them on backorder so there was no chance I could get them on time. The customer service rep. at Classic Cruiser I spoke to at the time assured me the Clicbags could ship out that week. (I ordered them on June 20th.) Come the next Tuesday (June 26,) I checked my order status, and found that not only had my order not been shipped, but it wasn't going to until the 28th or 29th! I called, canceled my order, and bought some River Road throw-overs from the local accessory shop, (which worked out great, BTW.) Well I return from my road trip on July 3, last Tuesday, and find that UPS has dropped of my bags that I canceled, and my credit card has been charged! I sent them an email explaining the situation and telling them how I was not impressed by my first transaction with them. Today, they replied to me with a very un-apologetic email explaining (or giving an excuse) that the customer service rep. was giving me information she received from their distrubution center that was accurate at the time and shippping delays tend to happen blah-blah. It did not even address their failure to cancel the order. They also explained to me the return process I must go through: I must request a return number online, explain why I want to return the items, and wait for an approval and detailed instructions on how to ship the order back, rather than just having UPS just return the un-opened package to sender! I don't feel I'm being unreasonable here. I just hate it when I am treated like things are my fault when they weren't. If the order would have shipped the week I placed it and didn't arrive on time, that would have been OK, I would have understood. But this is just all too much for me to ignore.

I have zero tolerance for bad service. After my Saddlemen bags started cracking badly, I sent them TWO emails which have not been responded to. Needless to say, they will not get any more business from me.
Generally, a local MC shop is your best bet. At least you're dealing with a local guy that has it in his interest to treat you fairly.

Unfortunately in many places today service sucks...couple that with the fact that no one is responsible for their own actions, and you've got all-round bad juju.

Can you not just get back to your credit card company. You must have some form of protection from them. I had this happen in UK and the credit card company refunded my payment and the company that had sent me the goods had to arrange their own collection of the unwanted goods.(Something to do with distance selling laws over here)

Yep, had an uncomfortable experience myself recently. Don't wanna say more right now other than it is somebody we all deal with regularly. Still debating if I am gonna send any of my $$$ that way ever again. Have been trying to resolve this in my own mind in that person's favor and still haven't been able to do it. Wanna know more than that you'll have to PM me. Just makes ya think though that even though you may implicitly put your trust somewhere, things can still go awry.

If you think the return policy is unreasonable you could just contest it with your credit card company. They would, in all likely hood, credit you and stop payment.
Maybe a bit extreme though.

When I got the wrong Tourmaster bags, I e-mailed the guy, he immediately sent me a pre-paid UPS label, and shipped the correct bags before I even sent his wrong ones back. Very impressed to say the least.

Maybe we need another forum, or just a sticky thread with vendor ratings.
Everyone makes mistakes, it's how well they resolve them that makes the difference. That's the information that we need to have disseminated.
One comment/explanation per member doing the rating, no debate.
And it has to apply to everyone.

Good idea. It gets my vote. (Too bad it's not a democracy.) And no vendor should be exempt from opinions.

Yeah, THAT'S not gonna happen. We're already stretching the limits of legal liability for letting this thread even exist. There's already a disclaimer linked on the homepage that states that the owner isn't liable for anything said in the forums, but that probably doesn't mean a whole lot.

That's irrelevant. If one has a grievance, they have every right to whine as much as they like. It also serves many other purposes.

Kevin, I had Saddlemen Drifters that also cracked very badly. I called them and got very good service. I was preparing for a trip and was told they were out of stock and just to do whatever mods were necessary to make them work for me for the trip. I was apprehensive, thinking hacking them up would be their excuse not to honor warranty. Not so. They recommended bolts and fender washers, and when my new set came, they cracked as well. They were also replaced without question. The 3rd set was sold here... with full disclosure. Give them a call. It may not work for you but it worked for me.

That is absolute horse poo.
One thread awhile ago was about an unresolved issue and this board was NOT the place to resolve it. If all avenues had been exhausted and the issue resolved (good or bad), then take the experience here. That was not the case in that instance and you know it.

No it's not. I actually got PM's telling me to watch my mouth because a certian someone is "Idolized" around here.
You wouldn't be refering to a thread I started would you? That wasn't about service. That was about me not knowing if I had the right parts. Maybe I shouldn't post until I can take my bike apart and put it back together blind folded.

Not strictly true. As long as you have the disclaimer, and nothing posted is liabelous or slanderous or illegal, then the site owner is totally safe.
I haven't seen any libel or slander here, except maybe when Dwight and Ian get on eachother. And of course, Yota's underage drinking is not legal.

Yeah, I don't get that either. I don't see what the legal problems would be with someone griping about customer service, or praising it for that matter.
I was just sharing an experience and kinda soliciting for perhaps some better opinions/ experiences so I don't stop shopping somewhere because of a freak thing.

I agree. Besides, I would think that if any vendor would attempt to sue this board or any member, he/she would soon become a short note in history (and I mean that business-wise).

Libel or slander (whichever it is online) is a matter of perspective. And this is a very litigious society. Just because Robert would win the suit doesn't mean we want to see him go through that.
C'mon, let's see your next spin on this. I'm waiting with bated breath.

I never said they shouldn't whine about the grievance. Try reading what I typed. Let me restate a little less succinctly, including the part you deleted: It's NOT TRUE that there is a vendor who is off limits. But for every complaint there will be a bunch of compliments posted. That IN NO WAY OBVIATES THE COMPLAINT! IT ONLY COMPLETES THE PICTURE!

Yeah but JC, what you don't know is that Ian and I have an understanding(a gentleman's agreement, if you will): We can call each other every name in the book(well, every name we can get past the censors...er...moderators nowdays, that is) but still would be happy to sit down for a beer with each other without advising our respective lawyers about each and every slanderous epithet tossed out in reply!
Ain't that right, Ian ol' boy?
Come to think of it, I believe that pretty much applies to most everyone around these here parts.
However, I'm NOT going to say a word about Yota's ALLEGED "underage drinking"(notice how I smooooothly slipped that "alleged" word into this sentence, so's I won't get sued), 'cuz I hear that boy's uncle is presently representing that Spector fella out here in California right now, and so I sure as heck don't wanna get on HIS bad side, Dude.

When it is written or broadcast, it is libel.
The claim about lawsuits is disingenuous. Any one can sue anyone at any time, and refusing to add a vendor review forum or thread and justifying it on the basis of legality is once again hiding motive behind some official-sounding imperative.
What if I crash my bike using a rider safety technique posted here? Is the owner liable? Of course not. Unless he intentionally posted it with the intent of causing harm, and that would be virtually impossible to prove.
By the way, the only perspective that matters in a libel suit is the jury's.

Looks like classiccruiser's Better Business Bureau's record is unsatisfactory due to unanswered complaints. I was unable to successfully create a link to the specfic report, but it's there with multiple complaints. The on-line BBB is a great tool for checking places out. I wish more people would use it and file complaints when warranted. Just my .02. Regards, Tom

I think it's pretty darn simple.
There should not be anything wrong with posting about a vendor that you had a problem with, the attempted to resolve the problem with the vendor directly before posting about it. For example the original post in this thread. Benjammin had an issue with classiccruiser.com. He then contacted classiccruiser.com to attempt to resolve the issue. He got a reply back from classiccruiser.com. He did all that before he posted anything. If the story is not complete (whether it is a satisfactory end or a frusterating one) then do not post anything about the situation. The original post in this thread is a good example of how to post about an issue with a vendor. It is a complete story.
This forum should never be used to resolve issues with vendors, period. That is what private messaging, email and telephones were made for.

I'm breathing again normally, thank you. Your reply was about what I expected. Refuting it would be an exercise in futility. Instead I decided it would be a lot more productive to concentrate on doing some work for one of my clients for several hours this afternoon and evening. Making money is cool.

ok, here's my edit: I've been forgiven for my (what do you call sins here?) mistakes on this forum. The moderators have their "online time" consumed by trying to review all the posts, to make sure they're in line with the rules. Please join me in setting them free a little, and not submit posts that will surely cause controversy. I miss hearing from the hearts of "all" our mods. Phil always has some good stuff to post, but can't even think because he's busy trying to sort through our rants about nothing (well, nothing we can control). Can we make this a joint effort to keep it clean so the moderators can again enjoy our little corner of heaven on earth, i mean paradise? Thanks to Phil and the other mods for your grace.
BENJAMMIN - I appreciate the warning about classiccruisercom, I've heard a couple friends complain about them.
