After going down last fall I have promised myself ~~ and my wife ~~ that I will always ride with protective gear ~~ and I do. But that makes riding in the summer miserable in Fresno. My personal limit is 97 degrees. If it gets any hotter than that Ol' Bessy stays in the garage. Today it is supposed to be 108 ~~ tomorrow ~~ 109. It doesn't look like Ol' Bessy will be seeing much action for another week. For you ~~ how hot is too hot?

When it gets over 90 here in Rhode Island I'll let you know but until then, ride faster and wear a vented jacket.

I haven't found a too hot yet, but then I live 8 miles from the ocean. My record is about 100 degrees/100 percent humidity.
A wet t-shirt under a vented jacket helps, I've also soaked my helmet liner.

Rev...suggestion:

Early one morning at about 7am, well before the Central Valley's temps start that inevitable summer claim upward towards the triple digits, you start that puppy o' yours up, you head west on CA Hwy41, where, in around a hour, you will arrive to the intersections of 41 and 46, whereupon you will have a choice to make: Take 46 west towards that cool(both climate-wise and aesthetic-wise) little burg of Cambria which sits on the shores of the blue Pacific, OR continue southwest toward that other equally sceanic and cool little town of Morro Bay.

(be sure when you get to that intersection of 41 and 46 that you avoid the same fate that befell a certain young actor by the name of James Dean a few years back in his Porsche 550 Spyder)

As you probably know, taking this advice will cool your jets(not to mention every other aspect of your being) that appears to be boiling away there in beautiful Fresno California at the moment.

Now, regarding your initial question:
Just about 95 degrees, give or take a degree or two!

Cheers,
Dwight

snekeptp had a nice Teknic jacket for sale in the classifieds that I tried on (but I'm too big around for it to fit) that would be perfect for hot weather riding, armored but lots of mesh ventilation and extremely light in weight. I just it had be bigger

I wear a triumph mesh jacket that is comfortable in 100 degree weather until you hit a stop light. When you stop moving things get ugly in a hurry!

Awww.....comon.... if a little old lady like me can ride I-80 from Sac to Cleveland the middle of last July, I know it was about 110 in the desert, then what's the problem...Just keep hydrated...
Although I wasnt' on the Speedy.... that would have been better, I was on the FJR, fairings and windshield and too much plastic blocking the breeze...and I was also wearing full leathers. (Too much stuff on the bike and no way to carry them...)
BUT...no one ever said I was smart....
but oh well.....

Yeah, they're saying 106 here tomorrow. Yikes!

It's 99 right now and I didn't ride to work today. Maybe tomorrow, but I'm liking my AC in the cage right now.

I'll swap you all the rain we're having over here at the mo, just for one day of it being too hot. I nearly got to putting the heating on this afternoon.... but instead pulled a jumper on. And I'm fed up of getting wet.

Rob - Early to bed and early to rise. I feel for you, but I just can't reach you anymore. Up to Shaver, Yosemite, or Huntington for a late breakfast.

For a cool thought, imagine me doing a three day surveillance in Clovis, buttoned up in a van, waiting for someone to bend over so I could catch a little video. Have never been so hot in all my life.

Dwight's right though, off to the Central Coast for summer cool. Remember what Mark Twain said, "The coldest winter I ever spent, was a summer in San Francisco," also applies to Monterey.

You can get yourself a Cool Vest (there are similar neck wraps), or if you can find one, a Hoon Cooler.

Personally, riding in the heat is ok as long as I'm moving. But just a bit of advice, don't ride in short sleeves for any distance no matter how hot it gets.

116 today. (yeah a "dry" heat, so's a pizza oven) Not too hot. Joe Rocket mesh jacket, full face helmet, full finger gloves. Keeps the blast furnace effect down, as well as the solar heating on the skin.
Sweating's good for you, cleans out the toxins.
Just have to drink a few gallons of water.

I don't ride to Death Valley in the summer though.
130 is too hot.

It was up to 32C (about 90F) here today. I know that doesn't sound like much to most of you 100F+'ers but I don't complain about the heat. When it's -30C (-22F) and it snows for a week straight and I have to walk by my bike everyday to get the shovel to dig out my truck, then I start complaining and wishing for days like this.

I'v been wearing shorts to work on my bike this week but I put chaps on so I don't burn my leg on the exhaust. I also have a mesh jacket so I'm still covered for armor.

Too hot to even breath last week here in the ATL, coming home from work on my TBA on interstate 20 was like a blast furnace....but never really too hot for me, I think about the bike, if it's too hot for her...don't want her to overheat sittin at a redlight or somethin....

I use one of these web page with a wicking style t-shirt. Keep your vents open (of course) and use a camelback or water bottle.

I always think of 37°C as our body temp, 0°C as freezing and 100°C as boiling for a relativity type of thing. All the other numbers°C don't matter!

In the Southeast during summer months we chew our air before we can breathe it. Anyone who's been to a Georgia Rally after the first weekend in May will attest (what? do you think Chy's stupid? He knew that a second rally was out of the question if it had meen scheduled later). Anyway, 103°F is my max, if the humidity is over 95%, as long as I'm moving. But, that's when the traction get good.

Well all I can say its alright for some. If we hit 80 in UK we are lucky. Don't ever seem to have the problem of overheating even in the height of summer. At the moment we are looking for a missing person, goes by the name of Sun, if anyone spots him can they please remind him its F***ing July

soaking a t-shirt under a vented jacket is a great tip.

We have been over 80% humidity here for what seems like months now. No breeze, rain just makes it stickier, etc, etc. Yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

Good bourbon weather.

I was in Missoula today, it broke some kind of all-time temp mark @ 107dF. I bought a white short-sleeve shirt (snap button of course). I also saw lots of riders only wearing tank tops and shorts

I like the wet t shirt/vented armor mesh idea. It's like having a personal portable swamp cooler

I resemble that remark! It has rained for over 20 days straight here in Houston. Very scattered showers, but they blow up in a hurry and can pour buckets for an hour or more at a time. And so hot and humid between the showers it is not worth the effort to mount up. My pickup has had more miles put on it in the last 2-3 months than it did all of last year!
