America Question:

Does the spoked hub have bolt holes on both sides so an extra disk/rotor can be added ?

Speedie Question:

Anyone know the distance between the outside edges of the disks/rotors and the distance between the outside faces of the wheel bearings, what size are the disks/rotors.?

Thanks

No, it doesn't. However a Triumph Thunderbird Sports one DOES have mounts for twin disks and is otherwise a direct replacement for the spoked America hub. Note: the hub for the regular Thunderbird (non-Sports) is a single disk hub only).

No, we've not found any other hub that fits.

Don't forget you also need the right fork leg, right caliper, plumbing, disk, master cylinder, and various seals, bolts etc from a speedmaster. It's cheaper to buy the upgrade kit than it is to buy all individual the bits new.

Matt's pretty much answered it.

The bits he didn't answer... the disks on a SM are the same as on your America. So the dementions you want are on your bike...

The Thunderbird Sport wheel has a 17" rim. You could run with that but the stock spoke wheel has a 18" rim. The t'bird sport wheel however is as rare as rocking horse poo. Some of the guys on here have them, and are just waiting the time/finance/enthusiasm to do the conversion.
As Matt says the upgrade kit is the best way to go, but is pricey.

wanna see some pics....

With a Triumph 18" rim on

As far as I know I am the first (on here) to actually get the conversion done with a T'bird Sport wheel. (and mert... IknowyouhavebutyouusedaSMwheelnotspokes) I haven't really ridden it far as the insurance policy only started yesterday, but to the mot and back... I had a choice - rebuild after a crash with a 'normal' wheel or do the upgrade. So while the bike was in bits...
If you wanna see it in person - come to Rays' BBQ I'll be taking her there.

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

I think the others may say that going to 16" will be going too small. I'm gonna say I'm not technical enough to say either way (really I'm not. I have a dad that is however and I'm learning all the time.) I just went and put the 18" rim on, as I wanted everything (other than the brakes) to be the same, as the estmate after the crash included a new frame. I wanted to ride the bike round the block and hope that everything felt ok. If it didn't feel ok then we'd know the frame had a problem and strip the bike down completely and sort it out. If the front wheel was different, it wouldn't feel the same not matter what. (We did some other measurements and not just rely on my gut feelings.)

The thing with Truimph is that a lot of the parts are interchangable. (Read that as they are cheapskates and reuse bits over and over again.) Hence why the T'bird wheels fit, the Tiger brake calipers fit, and so on. And why the brake disks are the same...

The bloke who I bought the T'bird Sport wheel of asked how much a Triumph Dealer would charge me for a wheel from them. I wouldn't know as I didn't ask. I may be a thought though. I shudder to think how much it would cost from them...

I am eventually going to lace a 16" rim on the front of Wendys bike. Only thing stopping me is I haven't figured what I need for spokes yet.(no time) I lowered the back down 2" and want to lower the front using the smaller rim and fat(wide) front tire. It plays into the look we are going for.

Thanks Ray. I just think how looked a couple of months ago. Then I look at the above pic. She's going out for her first proper run on Sunday, next then will up to yours for the BBQ. Though see how Sunday goes first.I'm sure she'll be fine. Just got to get use to the brakes up front....
