Here's the Babelfish translation of the Italian. Not the best translation, but you get the idea. Sounds like an "artist's concept":

"Voices are that more and more insistently speak about one Cruiser of 1500cc with twin-cylinder engine parallel, obtained eliminating a cylinder from poderoso three online of Rocket III. The motion equipped with such motor would go to overwhelm the great empty present between the Modern Classic and the furious Rocket. Not there are official confirmations, but reasonable possibility is one."

Here's free translation's version. Close to the same.

There are shouting that speak more repeatedly of a Cruiser of 1500cc with two-cylinder engine parallel, obtained eliminating a cylinder from the powerful one three in line of the Rocket III. The movement equipped with such engine would go to overwhelm the large present void between the Modern Classic and the furious Rocket. There is not official confirmations, but is a plausible possibility.

I think if they are going to sell any of these bikes it should be a parell twin not an inline twin.

I'm a little tired of the rumors, one place saying this, the other guy sayin that...

The only thing I know for 100% certain, I love my speedy but the hooligan in me thinks that concept drawing of the Daytona 1050 is sexy

If the R3 Tourer is going to look lke this, then maybe Triumph finally has it right on what a touring cruiser should look like. However if those spy photos are right, they still don't get it.

I'm hoping it's an iterative process. If the new "touring" model is successful they'll pursue the full-fairing, full-bagger in the concept sketch. Bloor doesn't go "all in" very often. That's what makes him a smart businessman. Take our bikes. First the 790 engine. Then a second model with the 790. Then one of those models goes to 865. Then the second one goes to 865. It's all a progression.

But he'll have to bring something absolutely badarse to market before it would change my plans to by a used, low mileage '06-'07 RIII in a few years and outfit it with all the Corbin goodies.

Good points, FJ.

Soren, looking at that particular artist's rendering of a proposed RocketIII tourer, what makes you think that it wouldn't sway a few Goldwing or BMW LT buyers over to Triumph?

To tell ya the truth, I kind of like it, and think that THIS was the bike Mr.Bloor should have brought out over two years ago.

If one wished to have less plastic wrapped around their Rocket but still wanted to Interstate tour on it, they already could do that with the present bike and just add the windshield and the bags as accessories.

Right now you can get a packaged R3 with a faring and saddle bags. Actually, Triumph offers three levels of "trim" on the R3. The only difference with the "Spy Shot" one is that it has hard bags abd a single headlight.

I know several people that have bought either Yamha Ventures, HD Ultra Glides and etc but like the R3 and would have bought one if it had a full faring and all the gizmos and comforts.

From what I have heard, the RIII Tourer, will be a Triumph in Road King clothing.

Can't get the Fig Newton song out of my head.

Good points FJ (I hate agreeing with Dwight...)

Unless they do a REAL fairing, it's all just accessorizing.

didn't say exactly, but the article mentioned how the suspension will be geared towards touring...my guess is that it will be more long-distance comfort and more capable for 2 up riding.

Isn't the Rocket aready over 800 lbs ? Add the tour pac and all those other fairings. It seems way too heavy to have fun on.

Man, what I can't believe is that after thirty years I was able to translate the Italliano myself and was spot on!

Someone above mentioned the Parallel twin versus inline, are then not at the upper limits of the parallel twin before they get into engineering problems with the available space? Thought I heard an engineer type say that once? I don't know, I know more about Italian than engineering!

I heard the same Eddy. Seems the stroke is what the problem is so they compensated for that 40 years ago by making the inline 3 and 4 cylinders. With the double overhead cams you can compensate for stroke limitations but then you have bore issues and heat transfer problems with the super wide jugs. Anyhow 4 decades ago they abandoned the super big P-twin idea. They called it a Trident.

That concept drawing looks a lot like this.

Looks more like a Gold Wing to me with those turn signal mirrors and the big top box with the passenger throne.

Let's face it - there is a limited choice of configurations for fairings/bags on touring motorcycles. The aerodynamics pretty much dictate what the fairing looks like. The main difference will come from the engine and quality of build. IMO - Triumph beats every other bike builder in that aspect. I'd much rather take to the road on a triple-cylindered torque-master than a weak-assed four cylindered rice powered, can't get off the line, POS.
