I just saw this article: going overboard?

Reminds me of a time I was buying beer in Buffalo. I had my son with me...he was probably 4 years old at the time. The kid working the checkout line wouldn't sell to me because everyone in my group wasn't 21. I had to get the manager over there...he sold it to me, but wasn't happy about doing it.

it appears that lawmakers have run out of all the important things to write laws about, so now to secure their jobs they have to figure out what to do, and with all that spare time on their hands this is the kind of stuff they seem to be comeing up with. stupidity!!!!! there should be a law!!! hahahahaha

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

It doesn't cover beer in bars and restaurants and it doesn't cover wine and liquor?!?!?! Seems to be even more usless that way. Since lawmakers have run out of all the important things to write laws about, maybe they should spend some time repealing some of the really stupid laws... One that comes to mind from Norfolk VA, if you're travelling at a speed of 75mph on the highways in the Norfolk area it's reckless driving...

Let my dying thought be that every mile was fun and let my tombstone read,"They never made one fast enough for me."

If you are riding 75mph in Norfolk, VA then you are travelling a minimum of 10mph over the limit. 20 or 25mph over if you aren't on the interstate.

Yes! I am a Redneck. Any Problems?

I know the speed limits in Norfolk, I brought that up because I've recieved a reckless driving ticket in Norfolk for doing 75mph on I-64 (a 55mph highway) The law in Virginia is that if you're going 20mph over the posted limit it considered reckless driving. However, my point is that on a 4 lane highway, if you can't controll your car at 75mph, you don't deserve a drivers license therefore making the slow speed limits and reckless laws there are just as silly as TN making it manditory for stores to card all people who are buying beer and not making it manditory for wine and liquor purchases. Two examples of silly laws that should go away.

Stupid laws are caused by unreasonable people. If a small group of nuts think some draconian traffic law is a good idea, and are willing to make legislators lives miserable, they will usually get their way if no one fights them. 55 MPH speed limits, ever lowering BAC limits, reckless driving tickets for ignoring stupidly low speed limits. If you do nothing when they are proposed in the legislature then prepare to live with them.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I don't live in TN, but I think this is a good idea - they just didn't take it far enough. They set a standard for beer sales - EVERYONE gets carded. It takes away the failure point of the occasional 'idiot' counter worker's opinion that "This guy looks old enough, while this other guy looks too young". There needs to be a set standard for alcohol sales. Unfortunately, they stopped short of requiring ID for ALL alcoholic beverage sales. Face it - it takes almost 8 seconds to show ID. If that's too much hassle to buy alcohol, and pisses you off, maybe you should stick to diet coke...

Good point Larry.
The opposite is true too.
Just a few years ago we got the 15mph all day school zones here changed to either "when lights are flashing" or "when children are present" or during the hours (posted) when children are coming or going.

It does take work, and expect resistance, but unreasonable laws can be overturned.

Sounds like the "Peter Principal" is alive and well in Tennessee .

It's another law to remove thinking from daily life and make the STRONG CENTRAL MIND the power behind all things.

I think the article may be incorrect in that Tenn. Is the first state to do this, Stores areound here have been asking for ID to buy booze and ciggarettes for years regardless of how old you look. Plus any resturant with any class will always card a lady if she orders drinks with dinner.
