I've been looking into the same. I'm currently in the process of blacking out my engine and sprocket covers. Just had the chrome stripped and have sent it out for powdercoating.
For the pipes I have been considering having them done with black nickel. Not sure if anyone has tried it. Its a shiny black instead of a flat. My local motorcycle place seems to think it will look good.
