I think what we may be seeing and reading about (sana A-hole author) is a guy who is on a trip that slathers oil upon his chain for lubrication. That would look fairly bad on the muffler and the engine case, while saving space and lubing the chain, and appear to be an oil leak to the untrained. Just my $.02....
