I pulled the air filter out to just check the airbox for cracks after reading one of Dinquas posts.
Laying in the bottom of the box was some sort of rubber grommet or seal about 1in. in diameter.
Where does thing belong?
I took it out since it was just laying there.
I havent tried to run the bike yet.

I just checked it.
It has 6 slots on one side about 1/8 in. wide with a 1/16 in.hole between each slot.
The other side is flat with 3 1/16in.holes.

Take the pic, save it to the computer, then go to photopost and upload it. I think there's a thread in the help section about posting. If you still have problems, e-mail it to me and I'll post it.

It sounds like the plug for the front hole on the airbox. When you remove the AI it goes into the little 1" hole. If it is, it needs to go back in or you are bypassing your air filter.

Pretty sure it's a cush-drive rubber. Goes in between the rear sprocket and the hub so the chain isn't as herky-jerky.

well it's not the airbox plug, and definetly not a cush drive rubber either.
Mystery part.

Thats cute.
I wonder how in the ____ that got in there.
Should I try to sell it on e-bay?
Or maybe I should send a check to Triumph for the extra part.
Or better yet, maybe they forgot to put it in when they built the bike.
Thanks again Benny.

OK, here's my theory. You happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and aliens were beaming down a crucial repair part to their landing party, but you disrupted the bean and it ended up on your airbox. That doesn't look like anything I've ever seen near the airbox, so that story could be true.

It's probably something that's fallen in at the factory or the dealers and hasn't been noticed since. I'd take it to the dealer and see if they can identify it, but I doubt it's part of your bike.

Ok found that cush drive thread, and here's the pic of the rubber thing.

But I swear it's in the same FAMILY as that... Reminds me of the spider things we used in couplers between electric motors and hydraulic pumps...

Benny,

That's what I was thinking - looks like half a drive coupling of some sort.

Maybe Alfie or Nigel had an accident and damaged one of there prosthesises, er, artificial limbs when they were biulding that bike.....

So weird that it has NOTHING to do with our thing, unless there's a coupling like that in the Rocket's shaft drive somewhere..
Nigel..... HA!

Solved.
I have been looking at my tank with the chipping paint.
Also looking at the bike overall.
Took the seat off to do a good cleaning.
On the seat post I noticed a rubber grommet.
It is identical to the grommet I found in the airbox.
I guess Triumph sent me a spare part.
Now I would be really happy if I knew what to do about the chipping paint.
I e-mailed BellaCourse.
Michael replied that the Monza cap would not fit a Speedmaster.
Anybody know what paint or anything I could use for the rim of the tank?
Dealer said clear nail polish, didnt work.
Tried enamel,didnt hold up.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
