Hi All, here I am asking for your advice again. Out riding today I noticed that all the popping from my Short TOR's was confined to one side only, so I scratted around under the bike and found both pipes were leaking at the point where they slip on the downpipes(they were tightly clamped but not sealed), so I took them of to seal the joint with some high temp silicone. I noticed that they were odd exhausts externally an exact match but internally one is straight through (although still baffled) the other is more heavily baffled, not straight through. It is the straight through one that pops. whats your advice? I'm never going to get shot of the popping if one exhaust is different to the other am I? should I batter out the baffles to make them about the same?

you got two totally different pipes...they NEED to be the same if you ever hope to get it running right....back to the dealer with you...

Throw those pipes in the bin, and get some proper ones.

Visited the dealer today, he says if they are odd, and I know they are he will replace them with a matching pair . He's scratching his head cause he supplied and fitted a pair for the former owner and can't understand why they'd be odd, but is happy to replace if they are. so tomorrow i'll take the bike in and get them changed.

I went through the same.
Wound up with three different versions on hand before I sent the whole mess back.

I wasn't going to tell you to hollow them out but as was stated above you definately need to get a matched set of pipes. Backfire will often result from an exhaust leak. The popping is probably due to the air fuel mix being wrong on one side since you have different restriction on one side than the other and still have the crossover I imagine. Your exhaust is probably trying to escape out the less restricted side drawing some air in from the more restricted side causing the popping.

Dealer sorted the pipes ot today both now match it's the more restrictive of the two pairs but i'm ok with that, slightly quieter but a deeper note, probably not as offensive to the local constabulary. still popping a bit but greatly reduced. Might try turning the pilot or going up to 120 mains.

Is the AI off Ian? That might help you popping, and going up on the mains + adjusting the screws will help also. My TORS popped alot, I kind of liked it once I got used to it.

Yeah, it'd probly do to open the pilot srews a bit at a time & see what happens.
They're probly sitting at about 1 1/2 if they haven't been adjusted previously.
I think you probably have 120s already (unless UK is different), but wouldn't doubt if they could be bumped a bit.
Also consider balancing - Particularly if different symptoms persist side to side.

The AI is off Dill, I will mess about with the carb settings soon as I've got hold of some vac gauges or a carbtune, wouldn't want to do anything till I can tell the carbs are balanced properly.
