If you want to wear a 1/2 and cut down on some of the wind noise this is what I did. Get a packet of those vinyl door edge guards that go over the edge of your car door. Cut to the length of the strap, slip over and put a tape wrap around the top and bottom to keep it from falling off. This stiffens the strap and keeps it rigid. You'll still get the same wind noise you get without a lid + a tad from the helmet - But you'll be surprised at the amount that comes from the straps. Whenever I want quiet and comfort - I go 3/4. No wind noise .
