Funny how that works - expandable foam plugs drive me koo koo, but the Etymotic three ringers (after wetting with a swab of lip juice) seem just right. The drug store mold-able wax jobs are comfy too, but take away too much sound for my liking. Etymotic claims one can saw off the largest ring for comfort without problems.

A tip that may be apparent already - reach around behind your head, and pull the top of the ear up & back to get good ear plug insertion.

I made the mistake in my yute-hood of offloading pneumatic bulk tankers with no hearing protection. If I recall, we pushed 1500 cfm of compressed air through the tanks - enough to push 25 tons of powder up a 100' vertical pipe in 40 minutes. Oh-my-Gawd -- were those tanks loud.
(Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?)
