The bike will handle the ride with the factory 17 tooth sprocket just fine. The question is whether you would like a small rpm drop. I run a 18 tooth sprocket on my bike an I love it. I ride mostly back roads with a little hwy and city. It not a big expence so you can buy an 18 and try it out, if you don't like it you can probably sell it here.
