Well my bike finally got picked up yesterday and shipped back to Hinckley. Hopefully they will replace the warped front disc/rotor. Adey's went back to the factory and they replaced the front wheel, rotor etc and apparently he is having the same problems again. Gina's new bike is also sporting a warped front rotor. Anybody else still having problems, just about 11,000 miles on mine and I think Gina's has less than 3,000 on hers..

I have had a warped rotor for a year. But my dealer has an answering machine that they apparently never check. I called them twice last year with no calls back and once this spring with the same result. So I picked a day last month to "drop by" and I stood at the service desk and stared at the shop foreman until my bike had been "looked at". They said they would check into the warranty but couldn't make any promises since my warranty was up and "I hadn't let them know about it before hand". So here I am a month later and I'm planning to "drop in" there on friday since I haven't heard back yet.

I haven't been following the warped rotor debacle too closely over the years because it's never been a problem. So my question is, do we know why it happens? Is it urban riding (stop and go) vs. highway riding? Is it just defective rotors?

I learnt yesterday that my dealer had picked the bike up, but had just took it back to their premises. I had rang Triumph +44(0)1455 251700 and Mark Swepson (Warranty Manager) was not happy that they had, had the bike three days and not delivered it to the factory. When they initially asked for the bike Mark said they would have the bike 7 -10 days, I said it was no problem I just wanted to know why the bike kept warping the disc/rotor and also informed him that I am on holiday from the 1st July for a week. Watch this space to see what happends next

This is the problem, Triumph do not know why it is happening, I have a friend with an 02 model America who has no problems what so ever with it

I had mine changed after 7100kms! Now the pulse is back at 19000kms. I am going to write to Triumph N.Z. and see if I can some written assurance that they will continue with the fixing of this problem if I go outside the Warantee period. Keep ya posted.

As you all know my bike got picked up on the 25th see top of thread. Well believe it or not I have just been told that Triumph have just received it in the factory. I rang my dealer and begged so where has my bike been, he replied by saying well Triumphs own courier picked the bike up a week last wednesday so I would pressume it is lying in a crate in the factory somewhere. I decided to email Mark Swepson Warranty manager my email is below: Hi Mark
I presume you now have the bike and are ongoing with investigations into why the front disc keeps warping.
I have been on the telephone to Orrell, and have been given a full explanation as to where my bike has been for the two weeks. According to Steve(manager) the bike was picked up by your couriers a week last Wednesday, resulting it being sat in your warehouse.
I would like a explanation as to why you keep informing me that you have not received the bike.
Mr Birch
I got this reply: Mr Birch, Many thanks for your email. As discussed previously we can confirm that as of Friday 6th July we had not seen your machine, nor were we aware that Orrell had arranged to return it via Gefco (courier). Please note that we had asked Orrell to return the bike directly to us, alas they chose another route and delays have been incurred. I can confirm that your machine was delivered to our factory today and subsequently taken to our design department for further investigation. I would also like to assure you that these are the facts of the situation and it has not sat in our factory warehouse as stated. Best regards Mark PS: Please note that email is not used as a medium for customer communication and future emails will not receive a response from Triumph. If however you wish to call then I will be happy to discuss this matter with you.
I just wonder who to believe, all I know is my bike disappeared from the face of the earth for two weeks with either side saying they had not got it.. Will be glad to get the bike back

Will be glad to get the bike back It is probable that the ALIENS took it for a short ride and an exploratory probe - happens here all the time-they usally take good care of them .

Considering the time of year, I'd guess that the courier spent a week or so at Brighton beach on your Triumph.

I am missing something. Why do they go back to the factory? The dealer can't replace rotors then send the rotor to Hinkley?
Makes me worry that if my bike has an issue they will want to send it 1400 miles to Georgia then maybe Hinkley?
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I think it's more a case of its the 3rd or 4th one that Ray's had replaced. Ade's went back to Hinckley at one point too. His has warped again...

The rotor is another name for the front brake disk. You get used to everything having two names after a while.
How do you tell...you put the front brake on and it feels like riding a kangaroo.

Not me...I very rarely use the front brake and moan about changing the back pads every 3500 miles or so.
And uniquely have the experience of 9500 miles on an 03 America. Never had a problem with the front disk on that. So much so that when I put an extra disk on the front I reused the original disk as the upgrade kit comes with only the extra one.

Well got a phone call today from Hinckley, the techys say it is the worse bike they have ridden with the front rotor problem. Mark also went on to say that the disc is thinner in places and that the cause of the problem is the front caliper is not true. He also stated that they will not be using my local dealer to ship the bike back to me, heaven knows how long that would take if it took two weeks to get to Hinckley. Should have her back by the end of next week, will hold off for a while before I replace the wheels and front forks.. Also Adey rang Mark up today same problem, he suggested going through his dealer, which is what Adey will be organising tomorrow if he remembers

Hey....spooky I was gonna PM you and see if you've had any news.
So if the caliper is not true (meaning what exactly?) does that mean thatevery one who's had problems have a problem caliper too? Does that mean another period on my Thruxton??

My bike will return Monday, with a new caliper and rotor/disc/pads. Hopefully that should sort the problem out. Straight from Triumph not through the dealer.

Bike returned Monday as promised and took it in for MOT (3 years old on 17th) While checking everything I noticed on the new caliper the pin was not fully home holding the pads in, infact it was just about touching the pad nearest the wheel. I unscrewed it half a turn and the pads fell out. No dust cap over the pin.
I also received some indicator lenses, as one on the rear had a mark on it and Triumph decided to give me two because the sun discolours them. Anyway managed to do one and the other side was loose, infact the heads on both screws were non existent. I telephoned the Warranty department and had a bit of a moan, but apparently no one had tried to undo these indicators. They sent me a new pin and dustcover and 4 new screws and washers for the indicators.
I drilled the heads off both screws very carefully and then soaked the screws in WD40 and left them for a couple of hours. Unfortunately they both snapped off. I managed to get one out but cannot get the other out.
Bike passed MOT (Before playing with indicators) and took her out yesterday to look at a private collection of bikes in Blackburn. I broke down on the motorway and had to be collected by the RAC, the left hand coil had decided to pack in.
I am now waiting for two replacement coils and I have gone with PDL a German make, hopefully they will be alright when they arrive..

my 03 speedie is fine but had a similer problem with an older ford falcon car. It turns out that the discs on the front (why only the front I dont know)of the car were warping when leaing the brake on while stopped. the heat in the pads were heating up one section of the rotor over time this disimiler heat on the rotor caused warping.the cure using the hand (park) brake when stopped foot of the brake pedel dont know if this is happen on the bikes or not it was just a thought.(a footbrake on a bike sounds interesting)

I've already had the front rotor on my 07 America replaced once, it went bad after just over 4000km and was replaced at the 5000km service.
