I still suffer from back pain after long rides and I had been wanting to try a different rider foot position, preferably mid-pegs or, failing that, something that would move the passenger pegs forward and down.
A couple of weeks ago I tried and failed to mount a pair of boogies mid-pegs and Brent had told me it would be a while before his “budget†relocators were ready so I decided it couldn’t be all that hard to make my own.
I cooked up a plywood template

and took it to a local machine shop. I’d never been there before but it was exactly the kind of place I needed: nobody in the front office, machinist happy to talk about what I needed. I had spent a lot of time measuring and drawing but the guy just traced around my template with a grease pencil onto steel plate and cut it out with something called a piranha and ground down the edges on a belt grinder. They did the three mounting bolt holes but I still had to drill the detents that keep the peg from rotating. From start to finish I had them on the bike in a few hours – not pretty but functional.
My conclusion is that they are probably a great improvement for the passenger and they would give the rider an alternative on long rides but they’re not going to help my back problem. I’m going to look at finding some offset peg mounts that will move a peg or board a few inches further forward and see how that does.
Also, I would not begrudge Brent or boogie a penny of their prices. These things may have cost me $30 instead of hundreds but that's ignoring a bucket of my time and the result is fugly. If I wanted these to suit a passenger i would spring for the fluted version from brent if only to hide the chain guard etc. It was kind of fun though and If I can get pegs somewhat further forward I'll be pleased.
