I had the same problem and what I did was remove the cap on the outside of the grip (held on by a couple of tiny screws) and put in my own spacer. I think I just chopped up some semi-rigid little piece of plastic into a strip and put it in there around the perimeter. Put the cap back on and you're good to go.
