This thread is the best.

No traumatized dog stories to add, but last night I was visiting my mother...had my 2 pups with me...My mother mentioned having read in the news about the girl who lost her feet on that amusement park ride....she said, "It made me want to cry." My Nevie had been chewing a favorite bone with complete absorption, heard the (troubled) tone in my mother's voice, immediately dropped the bone, jumped up tail all wagging and skibbled over to my Mum to comfort her. We had tears in our eyes.

We finally agreed on a name: "Augie".

Augie is a good name. Also the name of a dear departed Newfoundland that brought me and the Mrs. so much joy... Augie

I love dogs too and thats terrible. I too would love to find that owner. I hate how people do that to dogs. Both making them mean and total abuse like no food or water. I have 2 pitbulls and have had many in the past and they have all been sweet loveable dogs. My one current pit mix that I am pictured with in my photo post hates men from abuse. It took me a year to be able to get near her. She was never mean but scared and would run and hide. Now she is protective of me and my family she loves kids and women but still won't let a man except me get anywhere near her. Both pits are great with our grand babies but she is especially protective of them. My last 2 dogs a collie /shepard and another pitbull (best dog I ever had extremely smart) were also rescue dogs the Collie was so badly beaten he used to cringe and pee when ever anyone got close to him. All the above mentioned dogs with some help and love and kindness became wonderful well adjusted dogs with no more fear in thier lives.(the collie never really learned to play except with the pitbull and they were inseperable) I am not saying some dogs are not abused beyond help just that it is a CRIME when they are. I would like to see real jail time for abusers they love unconditionally and should get the same in return. The recent dog food poisoning from china bothers me too people who lost family members from that are only able to sue for property value not loss of a loved one. At least the FDA equivalent over in china got the death sentance for taking bribes and allowing that kind of thing to happen.

Yeah, he was a great playmate and a wonderful lad. Gone too soon from an undersized heart valve; I really miss him. We have a Pyrenees/St. Bernard mix that sleeps on his bed now that we took in from a PMC headed to Afghanistan. She was 8 when we got her and considered unadoptable due to her age. She's still pretty spry at 11 and a wonderful girl and, yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks if you try. Squeaky

Thats a cute dog and long lived at 11. We have a pyr that we got when she was 3ish. And now there are 4 other pyrs on our road out of maybe 20 dogs. Great animals. I just wish they didn't like to run away so much.

And now you know the reason my yard is fenced (although it gives them more than 2 acres to run).

I can't believe it just happened again, only in broad daylight. Some idiot tied a puppy to a tree across the street with a phone charger. The puppy broke away before we could get to her. She was scared and ran from everyone. I approached at an angle, criss crossing my way nearby. She was scared and barking up a storm. After a few minutes of puppy talk she sniffed and licked my hand. A few more minutes of petting and she let me pick her up and carry her into the shelter. This one will go to a new home quickly: a cute black mixed Lab about 3-4 months old.
Update from last weeks rescue: "Stone" is getting along nicely with good progress in his attitude. The staff is determined to get him socialized and into a good home. These are great people!

I got one of my dogs because somebody dumped her as a puppy outside the electrician's shop my buddy was working at. They didn't tie her up to a tree and we spent hours trying to catch her using hot dogs as bait (I couldn't believe how many she ate) to no avail. She spent the night outside but was still lurking near the shop the next day. She was caught when one of the electrician's wives pulled up and the dog jumped in her car. My buddy took her home and I adopted her. I would link to a picture but I can't get to Flickr or Picasa from work. She's a chow-malmute and cute as all get out.
