My right carb has been a little rich on the slow side and I could sometimes smell a little fuel. I removed the carbs, to adjust the float level. I had a small square of cardboard, so I measured 17mm and cut it then checked it with my digital caliper. Dead on 17mm. I grabbed a sandwich and a glass of tea. Adjusted the floats, and though they didn't look right, I assembled the carbs and installed them.
Bike wouldn't start. Checked everything and then found no fuel in the bowls. I grabbed my carboard gauge and measured it - 19.7mm. Yep! I threw away the 17mm one and used the wrong piece of cardboard.
Ever do something stupid?
I didn't post this in the tech section because it doesn't deserve the right to be there. Besides, if needs to be moved, Phil will move it. I checked Phil's schedule and he has absolutely nothing to do today.

I did that plenty of times on my Tbird, no fun push starting. Haven't done it yet on the speedy. Did you wake JR. up to help you push?

Me? Do something STUPID? The answer is, yes. Daily. Just ask the Mrs. for confirmation...

I bought my bike about a month ago and trailered it home. I rode about 2 miles when I got it home, the next morning I rode it to work, my wife asked if I had enough gas, I told her the dealer prepped the bike and I should be fine to get to the gas station. I got about 2 miles from home and it died, nothing in the tank, no reserve. She had to bring me some gas at 7:30 am with our newborn (she was not happy) I don't feel that was entirely my fault but still STUPID ME! but i also left the ignition on THAT SAME DAY at work and came out to a dead battery. With no gas and a dead battery this bike wont run worth a darn. since then i have had no problems. STUPID ME!

Wake Jr? Are you nuts? He threatened to put me in a home that was on 60 minutes. I prefer to leave him alone in the AM. I could have taken another member of the fleet, but I was so mad at myself I took the nerd car to calm me down. It's hard to drive with any anger or aggression in a Saturn.

Would you believe the oil filter on a Virago will go in backwards? Doesn't flow oil that way, though.

Yep! Every single time I attempt to talk reason with some Harley rider who tells me that spending 25 grand on a motorcycle that doesn't particularly handle very well is a rational investment.

(Yep! I have to admit I sometimes do this--> , a little too much)

Should always listen to the women... we know what we are doing. Apparently anyway.

GINA,
That's just a rumor. My wife says I never listen to her, or something like that.

Hey Wade.. what's wrong with you? That kind of perversive, reverse sexist propaganda can spread like wild fire. Don't you know this is an open forum.

I don't know, PES! I think I'd have to agree with Wade on this one.

I mean...I simply can't recall the last time I ever heard a woman say..."Hold my beer for a minute and WATCH THIS, Dude!!!"

Does this include divorced women?

Or women whose ex-boyfriends are referred to with words that would not make it past the bleep filters?

there have been a few times where almost, like the other day i needed fuel, pulled up to the pump, swiped the magic card, pushed the high test button, (now this is where it gets interesting) it was one of those pumps that one handle is for all gas selections and one is for deisel and it was just as i was reaching for the nozzle when a guy walked up and started with the compliments (you know the routine) and, you guessed it, i grabed the deisel nozzle, stuck it in the tank and pulled the trigger. meanwhile the guy is yammerin and i dont sem to be gettin fuel then the pump beebs at me, what is wrong?? then i realize just how lucky i am that i wasnt able to pump deisel as i had pushed the ethyl button on the pump and it wasnt gonna give me nothin but..... WHEW!!!! but like i said ALMOST hahahahahahahaha boys and girls a little advice...its very important to pay attention with everything you do, "you never know when you might end up paying a big price for not paying a little attention" my uncle the electrician used to say that alot.

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Really, any one of us XX chromosome types will often do. No need for marriage or special relationship.

We kinder ones refrain from gloating (at least until we're off with our girlfriends). I did mention my friend who wanted to ride together Saturday night with his regulator acting all flukey....I offered him the choice between not riding till he fixed it or looking at my "I told you so face" by the side of the road. He chose wisely, and instead we watched a movie. Thereby saving me wrinkles on my face to fret about.

Come on guys... you've got to help me out here. So far the central message from this thread is all men do stupid things and women are prudent, wise, cautious, uncontrolling, frugal and never do stupid things.. And Dwight (you traitor) ,when's the last time you heard a man say "oops I locked my keys in my purse in the car, I've got to call Triple A." or "I need to buy more shoes becuase they are on sale." To save myself from a beating I do admit that the "Triumph" women that I have met from here and communicated with, seem very level headed and intelligent. I'm just saying that stupidy transends the gender gap. We all do stupid things. Wheeeew... now that I got that off my chest, please excuse me while I go fill my bike with diesel fuel, and buff out the scratches from when I dropped the bike last after I find those darn keys.....where the heck did I put them.

PES- buying shoes on sale is not stupid! I'm saving money!

Alright, I'll admit it, I do stupid things too....the worst is when after I do a stupid thing, I say to myself, "Grrrrrr, I knew that was going to happen."

A comfort is that it appears that as I get older, the period of time between stipid things gets longer.

Popped out a hard contact lens over the bathroom sink last night. Forgot to close the drain. I was up to 0130 taking the elbow off and searching with no luck. Get to spend some bike money on a 5 year check-up and replacement. D'oh!

I chuckled over some of the stories in this thread yesterday, then wento out to where I had parked my bike all day while at work. I reached into my pocket to get my keys. Nothing there!!!

Stupid me left the keys in the bike, parked in a public place ALL DAY LONG.
