First, there are 3 baffles. They are round discs with a tube welded through them. there "may" also be a catalytic converter in there, depending on where your pipes came from. past that is a reducer. You'll want that left in. If your pipes have the converter material, you need to be very careful not to damage it...Ask me how I know...

There are dozens of ways and preferred methods. Some like to drill out the baffles, some just drill holes in the baffles, some make a punch from rebar, I have used a steel pipe, and my favorite, a "T" post.
