31 miles 'till she sputtered to a stop. In the middle of Nowhere MA, 2 miles Chy(wojo) of a gas station. Martin and John came to my aid. Not sure what Abraham was doing.
Now I know how far. Uncle Charlie

I'll take your word for it... I've only hit reserve once- in rush hour on the freeway- sucked enough. Don't ever want to push.
The way I see it, there always need to be enough gas left in the tank just in case it decide to set it on fire....

Results may vary.
Exactly, But its ALWAYS less than you know it should be and at least a mile from the nearest station.

ok, good to know. I have done a bit over 50km(31.25 miles) nursing it in desperation - now I know how close I was!
I assume you were doing what you could to stretch the mileage?

I went 31 miles once, in the middle of nowhere NY (on Route 11 between towns). That had me sweating but fortunately I made it.

When I fill just after hitting reserve it takes 3.6 gallons so I'm figuring not quite a gallon left in the tank. I usually get about 40 MPG so I’m guessing 35 miles would be the max. As a former flyer I developed a real phobia about fuel starvation so I won’t go more than 20 miles past hitting reserve. I once planned a fuel stop at a gas station that had gone out of business since the last time I’d been there and had to press on, so the most I’ve actually run on reserve is 25 miles or so. It took 4.3 gallons to fill. I never fill until after hitting reserve unless I’m getting ready for a longer trip, I’m not sure where the next fuel is or I think gas prices are going up. I normally get 143 to 155 miles before switching to reserve.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Once, expecting to have somewhere close to a gallon after hitting reserve, I was more than mildly shocked to go just 10 miles before it died, empty.... shaking the tank got nowhere. Another rider had a quart MSR bottle that got me to the gas station. I will never expect reserve to go further than 10 miles again. I now also carry a quart MSR bottle.

I routinely see 142 or more before hittng reserve, and that may be less if I've been the whole tank at 80 mph+ on the slab.
Have gassed up more times than I can count at over 170 miles on the tank, and I can't recall ever being able to get more than 4.1 gallons in it.
Though I don't want to try it, (at least without toteing some extra fuel), I feel pretty confident that my Speedy could go 190-200 miles before running out.
Fuel economy does drop some when I am flying low on the slab, though. Temperature may matter too. Is fuel economy the same on a cold night as it is on a hot day?
Can you get more gas for the $$$ filling up in the morning when the overnight chill has all the molecules contracted?

Nice try
The gas in the ground shouldn't be changing temperature much during the day but it sure does expand a lot after it goes into the tank on a hot day. Two days ago I filled up and the card reader on the pump failed during the transaction. I had to go inside to pay and by the time I got back to the bike it was peeing fuel all over the concrete, and I was under the canopy!

Right you are Larry .
I always fill up at least ten miles from my next stop in the summer.
