A long time ago, a young man named Robert created a site dedicated to our motorcycles. Through growth, the forums you see are what that original site has become. The only remnants of the original are the front page and the archives.
He created this site with all of you and your families in mind. A place to jaw with each other, a place to share your highs and lows, and a place to find out the latest mods and the best fixes for problems. A lot of work went into the original site and a lot of work has gone into the new forums. Why? Because of one man and his love for these motorcycles.
He also set some rules in place to keep this a family oriented site. Somewhere you would not be ashamed or embarrassed to let your spouse, children, or grandchildren see and share with you. Something almost unheard of in this day and age and for the most part, everyone here abides by the rules. There are always some that test the rule boundaries and like recalcitrant children, the moderators are forced to slap them one in while. No big deal.
However, there have been a few too many borderline postings and replies lately. I am referring to posts concerning masturbation, menstruation, sexual innuendo, scatological references, and even some of the coarser and baser deviant behaviors. We also have some of you finding your own cute ways around the profanity filters. This in particular is getting out of hand.
Understand that none of the moderators are prudes in any sense of the word. Some of you know us personally and know that for a fact. However, we are here to keep Robert’s house clean and tidy for all visitors and it is getting much more difficult.
So we are asking you nicely to please keep this garbage off here. We would appreciate it and I am sure more than a few of you would too.

As a major offender of sidestepping the profanity filter myself on occasion, I'm going to guess that pseudo-curse words are okay (if unimaginative, as Chy would suggest). I think what were not going to allow is spelling out a curse word with one of the letters swapped for a number or asterisk or other character, so the word is still essentially readable.
I'm sure Phil will correct me if I'm wrong.
Also, the members should know that, while the Lounge is more or less a free-for-all as far as topic drift, this will be less tolerated in the other, more topic-focused, forums. There is an epidemic of people replying to questions in other forums saying something contradictory, inflammatory or worse, completely useless.
If someone asks a specific technical question, and you don't have a relevant comment or follow-on question, keep your trap shut. If you have something different to add, start a new thread or send a PM.
This does have a real justification. Occasionally there will be a discussion in one of the tech forums that is just a goldmine of useful info. When we want to move that into the Tech Vault, it is a pain in the rear to "clean it up" and remove the cruft.
Before the usual blowhards freak out, understand that none of this applies to the Lounge (starting after the profanity paragraph). I, for one, don't want to have to start pruning the Lounge of all the frivolous posts people make to ramp up their post count. I don't get paid enough to do that.

Actually FJ, that was more a rhetorical question, added for comic effect to my mock expression of disgust for Yota's sense of contriteness here.
I think I get it.

Well, you might get it, but others might not. Whenever The Powers That Beâ„¢ put their collective foot down around here, people overreact. Doesn't hurt to spell it out a bit more to avoid confusion.

Yeah...I agree.
(but, now I'm wondering why those "powers that be" erased my first response here...I thought it rather "tame", with a somewhat "vague reference", didn't you?!...well, maybe "they" possibly felt a little bit "undermined in their authority" there,?!)
(eeh...forget it!....as you often say yourself...."Move along! There's nothing to see here, folks!")

Local county mounty lingo...."Move Along" "Nothing To See Here"
Sounds like something Sheriff "Joe" Arpaio would say.
Notable referenced Maricopa County old fashioned sheriff.
You go to Sheriff Joes jail and its a real jail.

Hey Kevin, seeing as how PES hasn't yet responed to my kind offer of sending a certain heiress to Oklahoma, do you think this here Sheriff Arpaio fella would take her instead???
(Lord knows I'm getting pretty tired of watchin' my local News and having THIS be the lead story around here....PLEASE talk to this Sheriff Joe for me...PLEASE!!!)

Well said. In the 4 years i have been browsing this site, I have seen responses deteriate to a point that it occasionally prevents me from submitting a question, not knowing if i will get a legitimate response or a load of B/S. Like Bonnyusa said; Lets get back to basics.

Not in his jurisdiction but if it were he would handle it.
Inmates in Sheriff Joes jail up the road live in tents year round and are forced to wear pink jail clothes and eat baloney sandwiches.
Some inmates complained about the heat in the summer and Sheriff Joe told them to just be quiet and shut up cause there were kids in Iraq in 130 degree temps wearing full combat gear and they had not even committed a crime.
Every state needs a Sherrif Joe. He is fair but hard.
The male inmates are not allowed any "mens magazines or any "luxury" of any kind. Sheriff Joe runs a taut ship.
You either love him or you hate him.

Glad there is so much support!
We were recently reminded by an old friend to take a step back every once in a while, take a breath, and jump back in. Give yourself some perspective, and it will help you realize your priorities, then maybe you won't get so worked up over something, or you'll read a post twice and think maybe it might not mean what I think. It will help you, and the rest of us cohabitate our corner of cyber-space.
Plus, I can't keep track of spell-checking the curse words when I can't even spell normal words right!
Oh, one more idea, like FJ said, it's OK to start new threads! If someone's question makes you think of something you need to say/ask, but it is unrelated, start your own! It's all good.

Not to jump your case Dwight, but I've met most of the other moderators and we are anything but power hungry. We agree, disagree, discuss and banter. We aren't perfect, but I truly believe we all try our level best to adhere to the original intent of this board as Robert set it up a few years ago. Beings to share experiences, educate each other, make friendships and even have a little fun along the way.

DON'T READ too much into that statement, gentlemen. THAT "undermined their authority" line was ONLY put in there to question why my admittedly smart-deleted (no)(can we still say deleted (no)...yeah, I can't stop).... ____________________________________________________

Social graces in social places. I appreciate being able to chat out with ya'll, get good info, exchange ideas, help friends- with my son in my lap- and my wife reading over my shoulder. I like not having to worry about framing or caveatting or excusing some people's behavior in advance when I invite a stranger (or friends) over here (ba.c). Keep up the good work guys. It's a thankless job...

While looking for a new bike, I visited "other" forums. There is NO dispute that this one is less restrictive, more informative, more social, and FAR more fun than any of the others will ever hope to be. I extend my thanks to the moderators for keeping it that way. I also understand how noses can be bent out of joint due to the "mod-hammer", but for the greater good I'd have to side with the moderators. It ain't Big Brother by any means, so if we mind our P's and Q's it's all good.
I've seen the other forums and unless you want to be part of them, thank the guys doing the dirty work here. It could be a whole lot worse!
PS: Being an ex-Arizonan, I support Sheriff Arpaio. Maybe the Moderators could build a "tent city" for offenders here?
Remember; no matter where you go, there you are.

So apparently some people are squawking, flapping their wings and hopping around with cries of censorship behind the scenes. Perhaps they donated some money, perhaps not. Regardless, they seem to feel they are owed something.
Now this is not directed at any one person, it's just a general statement that I and many others have made before and will make again:
This is not a democracy. This is not free enterprize. This isn't even a monarchy. It's a benevolent dictatorship. Full stop. There is a small group of people who have been charged with maintaining it, which makes it appear to function like an oligarchy (look it up), but it is, in the end, totalitarian.
If our benevolent dictator chooses, though I doubt he ever will, he could pull the plug in one hot minut...
