The tacho on my 2003 Speedmaster has accumulated some moisture inside it which has left a film on the inside of the lens. Has anybody pulled one of these apart or are they a sealed unit. I would like to clean it.

Mine has had a haze since it got it with 1000mi, I just live with it, never gets any better or worse. Let us know if you come up with something.

If you can find a friend with a convection oven (the table top kind) you can set the thermostat at 140 degrees and bake it for 3 or 4 hours. If you'll let it cool for the same amount of time still in the oven that ought to do it. You will probably have to use a candy thermometer to get the temp correct because 140 degress will still be in the "low" range prior to the inaccurate silk screen markings on the temp dial.

you can remove a plate in the back. Then use a hair dryer to evaporate the moisture......ANGELIS

Or, if you're want to have a real go at it you can do this: tach repair

If the tach is sealed, you will somehow have to open it up,(backplate removed like Angelis suggested) in order to rid yourself of the moisture, other wise heating it up will evaporate it, then it will condense again when it cools down. If you can open the tach up, then heat then try to fill the tach with nitrogen you might completely fix your problem. I have removed moisture from headlight bezels on cars this way, then filled the bezel with nitrogen and the moisture doesn't usually return. If you don't have access to nitrogen locally, purchase a whip cream maker that uses nitrogen cartriges as a propellant, pressurize the empty dispenser and fill your item with nitrogen.

There is a hole in the back for the light. I've not had problems with condensation but if I did the first thing I'd try would be to remove the tach, pull the light out and set the tach in the sun upside down. The nitrogen idea sounds good too.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.
