First, has anyone with a bonnie, america or speedmaster had thier TOR's installed and carbs jetted by So Cal Triumph, and if so what was the total parts and labor cost?
second, i get all kinds of conflicting accounts of how loud these pipes are. Some things i've read state that the early versions were quieter. Some say the america/speedmaster versions are much louder than the bonnie version which they say is just a tad louder than stock. Some say they're the quietest aftermarket pipe, some say about 1/2 way up the ladder. But i wonder if those conflicting opinions are due to the difference in loudness of the bonnie version vs the america/sm version, if indeed that is true. What is the REAL lowdown on all this?
I have a 05 speedmaster and want a pipe that is not much louder than stock but will add good tone and some extra HP/torque, at least enough to offset the accelleration loss from adding a sprocket tooth, hopefully a bit more. I also don't want to do any airbox mods if i can get away with that and still add enough grunt. If i get TOR's i would want the longs by the way. any diff between the longs and shorts aside from looks?
So whats the real story on all this?

As best I can remember, the TOR pipes are around $450 - 550. The jets about $6 each, and about 1 - 1.5 hours labour.
Part of the confusion is because they made 3 different versions of these pipes, progressively louder. If possible, try to get a live listen before you buy. Some people love the sound of these pipes, others hate them. As compared to the other aftermarket pipes, the TOR's are still the quietest.
After you get some better breathing pipes, it would be a good thing to pop whatever rubber bits are in your airbox out. This is easy to do, and it can give you up to 5 more HP with your new pipes. With the original pipes, about all you gain is a different sound in the intake. The engine has to breath better at both ends to run its best.

I see. So i assume the FIRST versions were the quietest. Is there any place you can still get these and is there model# or something they can be recognised by? By the way, i DO like the tone judging by the clips, assuming they are reasonably close.

look up, bullbiker has set he just took off (like you might after you ride with them for awhile and see/hear other pipes) I bet he'll make you a good deal.

I have a set of long tor`s that I had on my Speedmaster.
They were LOUD.
The last 3 digits of the part# is 026.
I have seen them on the the net with the last 3 digits being 020.
Maybe the latter are quieter.
I put a set of Thunderpipes on.
They sound a lot better.
Hopes this helps.

yes it does.Thanks. How loud are the TP's? I hear they get pretty loud when accellerating hard, no? And do they add much in the way of performance without any jetting or airbox work?

The only thing I have done to my bike is remove the AI. Except for the pipes it is completely stock. With the TOR`S All I noticed was the noise. The Thunderpipes do increase performance. They do growl on acceleration. I was suppose to have it Dynoed last week. Still waiting for the dealer to call.

If you dont want to thunder off down the road getting to much attention, but still want a good sounding Triumph, have a look into the Staintunes, they have removable restrictors which you can pop out in three mins for a nice loud sound or have them in to tone them down a bit. i have them on my TBA and so do a few others here and we love them. they are first class pipes and will last the life of your Trumpy, made of 100% stainless steel and the workmanship is second to none. a bit more exspensive then some but worth every penny. have a peak at there web site and have a look. loud Rating i would say, about same as thunderpipes with baffles out about the same as TOR with baffles in. all the best with your hunting for the right pipes for you. Oh yes, forgot to add this, staintunes gives you much better performance than stock, that you will notice without a dout. increase of around 8 hourses is the spec.

Your profile doesn't indicate where you're located, but if you're anywhere near Pittsburgh I have a set of TORs, a set of gutted TORs, a modified set of stock SM pipes that you can slip on for the purpose of hearing the sound variations. As far aftermarket silencers (IMO) the Thunderpipes seem to produce the best sound at a tolerable sound level. There's a fine line between good sound and bearable sound. If LOUD doesn't bother you, J.C. Whitney's offerings may be the best bang for the buck.

I've got the TOR's on my 05 BA, and they are quite loud (93 dBa I'm told, stockers are abt 82dBa). Short pipe HD is about 110 dBa, I'm told. The TOR (790 cc) sound is more of a distinctly hollow 'pop-pop' at idle than a deep rumble (HD like), some refer to this as 'english character'. Rev it up a bit, and becomes an aggressive roar. I like it, seems to be getting louder/deeper with the miles. And on decel, sounds great to me. I gather the AI kit gets rid of the popping on decel and pipe blueing (haven't noticed any of that yet). Maybe cuz my pipes are double wall. If you want the HD rumble kinda sound, I would suggest checking out the other options.
Cheers!

Burtec, I purchased the extra loud TOR long pipes.Great Bay Triumph sells em.When I first put em on I got that pop-pop-pop also.I really did not care for the sound at idle. But after putting on a 125 miles or so, that sound has just about gone. They are getting a lot deeper at idle, and getting pretty darn loud when accelerating.Basically just about what I wanted. If they get much louder though, I may have a problem with our motor patrol rolling tax collectors. : Al

Hey vegas,
Mine are the longs too, P/N ends with 8020. Just got em two weeks ago (dealer), so prob the latest version. I agree, the sound is changing (2000 kms)and getting coarser. Freakin loud, huh? I try to leave in morning without revving it too much, neighbors haven;t complained...yet.

Yo J. Doe....I had the TORds on my America..for about 150 miles. Too quite. Got the BUB slash cuts that look just like them. Better performance, lighter, and WAY better sounding. Heard the Epcos on an friends Speedy but it sounded to high pitched. Gutted at pair of stock pipes and cut off 5 inches...obnoxious and I lost power. You want to hear 'em...email mail me and we can set up a time. Also..South Bay Triumph in Lomita knows Triumphs. They will get you anything you want for your ride. If they can't I can..I have done EVERYTHING to my bike.

I didn't think it was funny when an IED went off ten feet from me. My hearing is all screwed up. Small price to pay considering it could have been worse. Constant high pitched hum. Epcos sounded high pitched at high RPM. Everyone hears things different anyway. Thats why there are so many questions about what pipes sound like. Pictures...I have many but the good ones will be posted in 2 weeks. Thanks

Jeez dood, nobody is busting your chops and I don't think that's funny either. However, I still think your comment about the Epcos is funny. I apologize if that offends you.
btw, I have the same affliction except mine is a high pitch ringing, all day, all night, incessantly. Sucks to be us, eh?
My pipes don't sound high pitched though. Trust me....

Think it's called tinnitus, Phil. Got it myself. Try to ignore it most the time but when fatigued it wins. Probably from too much shooting in my youth, rock concerts, etc. Just gotta deal I guess. And I still appreciate the low not-too-loud rumble of my TORs. Keeps the peace in the 'hood.
