Since cooler air is more dense, I/m thinking your high speed mixture is probably too rich. If the needles have shims under them, remove them. If they have 2 or more, just remove 1 at a time and try it. If no shims, go a size or two smaller on the pilot jets.

Oh, wait! First, try leaning out the idle mixture a little. A lot of people don't like the exhaust to pop, even a little bit, so they make it stop by over richening the idle mixture. The idle and transition jets seem to come back online in these carbs under high speed high load conditions. When I readjusted my mixture from no-pop to best idle speed, I gained over 10 MPH at the top end.




Yeah that was back before i found out i had my pilots at 55's & 127.5 mains, the larger pilots were compensating for the leaner mains.

So right now i changed the pilots to 42's, with no shims...which has me running a bit lean with a small amount of popping. i just checked the mixture screws and they were set at 2.5 turns, so i opened them out to 3 turns and its not popping so much right now, but i can feel it running a little lean off the start and at lower speeds. Even when i let off the throttle, its jerking forward, so im assuming the pilots arent letting enough gas in, and the mains are giving most of the gas. Im gonna try putting 45 pilots in and see what happens...and then work on changing the mains after.

Greybeard have you ever dynoed your bike after you got it running decently? Just wondering if you were running a bit lean in the lower rpms due to the air mixture settings?
