well.. few people actually ride Harley's to their extreme's, I am one of those... Until you have done a 38 degree lean angle turn at 70 mph on a 640lb Harley, I would highly suggest we not classify HD's as either slow or not particularly nimble.
I don't think most of us are picking on the bikes. I've seen friends do amazing things on 800 lb. road glides and full dressers.
It's (some of) the owners. And actually, that's an important distinction: owners vs. riders. There are too many of the former and not enough of the latter. I know people who ride the wheels off their Harleys and people who don't average 4 digits in mileage annually.

Irony of the day: Saw a guy on an Ironhorse Slammer (awesome bike and the showroom just 5 miles down the road from me) wearing a shirt that said, "$30k and 30 miles doesn't make you a biker". Had to laugh...

trust me, I know... I actually belong to a MC club that actually ridicules the "image" more than almost anyone!!!.... bikes are bikes, but the rider is what makes it happen. Regardless of brand.

So far we are mad at Harley because of madness and 30 years ago they broke down a lot. I understand completely now how they wronged you. Branding is madness, pure and simple. Many people here have no idea about other bikes or bikers because this is their first bike. If Triumph had 26% of the market you would see that the branded Triumph owners would act just like the Harley sheep. Skillet, you were not in the thread. You don't flame other owners. I would suggest you throw your leg over a new one for 30 minutes. It won't break. I will clarify one thing. I rode a Triumph to Arizona, it is not for sale. Nor is anything else I own. I am not long for this world but my future plans are to go back to Arizona May 08 with my son. I want him to see the beauty of the mountains on a bike and meet the great folks I met. My motorcycles mean to me: The sun on my neck, the wind in my face, my worries left behind, racing forward into the adventure of the day. Riding is what I do and have done for 40 years. I don't care what name is on the tank. If you ride you are my friend because just maybe some of you I wave to "get it". When I ride my bike, my bike and I become one, and all is right with the world. You don't like my Harley, its price, or me on it. Kiss my ** cause I am going riding. Sheep don't bite, ignore them, you will be better for it. Ya see, from across the lane you can't tell the sheep from the rider by the badge on the tank. That would make some of you wrong, a lot of the time.

EXACTLY, FJ! This whole thing was about the ADVERTISING that The Motor Company uses to push the idea to the public-at-large, NOT that their motorcycles are desirable to own because they possess the comfort and reliability that they obviously have, BUT to push the idea that you can "stick it to the man", which any person with an once of critical sense would have to take as some sort of call to be "A REBEL" against the so-called "establishment".
In essence, it has nothing whatsoever to do with anything regarding the motorcycle field, and everything to do with, as Thanassis rightly called it..."playing dressup".
And I have always found ads, regardless of the product involved, that cater to this.."buy me and you'll be cool", to be an insult to my intelligence.
(but then again, as you must know by now, I tend to get insulted rather easily, but I almost always cover my outrage with sarcasm and a joke)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Well, kind'a my point, Bill. If you're a 17 year old, then stuff like this matters. When you're a 45 year old dentist(or, ANY type of "Workin' Man" for that matter) and you STILL believe this hype....it's kind'a sad, ain't it?! (I'm burnt out on this darn thing...I think you'll all be happy to know that THIS is IT for me on this H-D ADVERTISING subject)

LOL, the Cragar's may ( and that is a very weak may) have gotten you in the door....but there the acid test will start. How long you stay and how far you go with your "Veronica"(insert life, career, motorcycle, ice cream flavor, etc), that is where difference in the "rider and poser" is laid bare.

I would have bought a harley if I could afford it. Something about that sound. However, I love my America and am somewhat grateful for my lack of finances. It's pretty cool riding something different. I think all of the trash talking is just what guys do. Just like in the car world with ford vs chevy vs mopar, import vs domestic, and so on. When it all boils down we all have respect for each other. Maybe I'm wrong though, I'm still a newbie, only been riding for a little more than a year. Anyone know where I can get some triumph t-shirts, stickers for my car, lampshades, etc.

Here's just another perfect example of an irate Ural owner jumping on the band wagon and bashing Harleys. I wish they would just stop piling it on. It's really getting old! Ural vs HD

Did any of the narration translate to "stick it to the man?"
He was fun while he lasted.
