I just bought new 2006 TBA. The dealer told me the first service @ 600 miles will cost over $250. That seems really steep for an oil change and to check if bolts are tight. I'm having a hard time justifying the cost. Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't do this service myself.

That seems high. My dealer charged me for my 500 mile service $72. labor and 61.94 parts, plus tax. The whole thing was around $145. with tax. The parts were 4 quarts of synthetic oil, filter, and washer.
Mine is going in next month for it's 2-year service.

Thats about what I paid but they did more than an oil change. They went through the bike tweaked and checked and adjusted everything. The bike definately ran better, sounded better and felt tighter.

They gave me a copy of the Triumph checklist which they went through. I felt better knowing someone made sure all was ok. I was going to attach a copy but it's not as easy as I thought. You can download the checklist at Triumph's website.

For that kind of money, I would expect to have carnal knowledge of the dealer's wife, daughter, and perhaps dog!

Hate to say it but it MAY invalidate the warrenty if you don't...
I only paid for the consumables on the 600 mile service. Triumph paid for the labour. Ask the next most local dealer and see what they charge. I may be a bit of a trek but it could be worth it.
