Ramsound is correct and that is measured where the cable attaches to the lever that gap where the cable is should open 2-3mm before the cable actually has any load on it.

It is a feel kind of thing too you can have a little more play if thats the pull you like as long as the clutch fully disengages when pulled almost all the way in and has no load when fully released.
