Got Jim's spacers a couple of years ago. The stock cables are long enough. Didn't have any trouble getting the old hardware out. And the hanging-the-bar-by-the-ceiling bit, well there's a reason for that. If you don't hang them by the ceiling or have an assistant (blond, big... never mind) and you're not real careful... well, I don't know what would happen, but it would be bad!
If you decide to get the spacers (and I recommend you do) I have some class 10.9, 10mmx1.5, 100mm bolts if you want them.
