Okay Jim! HERE'S what you do....

You take those stock mufflers and you drill out, using a 1/2 inch drill bit, THE FIRST forward baffle in each of them.(as those baffles are angled, be careful NOT to drill through the exterior casings of your mufflers)

And THEN, using that same 1/2 drill bit, you dill 4 holes in the back ring-plate, where that little "pea-shooter" thing-a-ma-bob(that's the "technical term" for that thing, of course) juts out the back of those mufflers.

And VIOLA!!!(sorry for the french here)...You've got yourself a nice sounding pair of mufflers(if any of you Limeys are reading this, these are, of course, also known as "silencers") that will be neither TOO LOUD, nor TOO SOFT!!!(and they have a nice basso-profundo sound to them TOO...that's a low, bass sound, and not that irritative high-pitched "EEEEEE" sound!)

AND, they still have that lousy embossed lettering on them that "guarantees" that Uncle Sam says that they are Okey-Dokey for ridin' around that city o' yours!!!

That's perfectly alright. Denver gives tickets w/ a pre-addressed envelope. Ticket cost and 41 cents will get you back in the city's good graces.

Dwight - is that like being 4x a "dill-hole"?

See you in "aught-eight"

As an addendum, if your pipes are too loud, steer clear of Pagliacci's in Denver, it's right across the street from the Denver Chapter of HA...

On the plus side here Bob, I just read the DP article, and it says that motorcycle noise is a KEY ISSUE for Denver citizens. Wow, if motorcycle noise is one of the worst things Denverites worry about, then it must be a GREAT place to live!!

Guess I'll find out soon enough, once the job thing works out. I've found several places that look promising to buy a house, now the darn job thing just seems to be getting in the way of that! Even my wife is now singing "Rocky Mountain High" and she was born here in Connecitcut!!!

(Bob here must'a just had some sort'a '80s flashback, folks)

No, Bob! I THINK you might be confusing this thing with an old Lionel Ritchie song, Dude! THAT was..."3x a LADY!!!"

(oh geez...I can just hear the ex-wife jokes about to come NOW, boy!!!)

Drilling is fine but based on the News rag you may need the stock pipe in it's orginal condition to get the "fix-it" ticket cleared. The TOR's don't seem to loud and I keep it low rpm in "noise" areas...so I don't think I will have a problem....with most cops in the city....

SDKimo, if you do the drilling right, there is no way that they can tell that they aren't stock. From how i've been reading these posts and the articles, the pipes have to have the EPA sticker. IF they have that, and no obvious signs of tampering, they really have no grounds to stand on....

Jim, I figure as long as whatever one does to their stock pipes that doesn't make them so loud as to cause attention to themselves(and of course, in the minds many of these jokers who simply MUST "cause attention" to themselves by riding with "straight" or overly loud pipes, THIS concept is an oxymoron to them...they would most likely have to look that word up in the dictionary, of course)..THEN there really SHOULDN'T ever be a reason for getting stopped by the cops in the FIRST PLACE!

(I know, I know, THIS just makes entirely too much sense, doesn't it?!)

Someone on the site certainly has some stock pipes you can get cheap. Just put an ad in the classifieds.

I got the TOR's as part of the bike deal. I just passed 500 miles on the bike and just (2 days ago) took it in the 500 mile service and they put the TOR's on. So my stock part is still at the dealer and I have 10 days to pick up my stock parts....So I will have a stock system if I ever need it....

I agree with drilling of the stock pipe. This was what I did finally on my Harley in Huntington Beach CA....there they went with "the bike has to have stock pipes", and they would pull you over, noise or not, if the cop thought your pipe was not stock and the cops got real good at spotting non-stock pipes.

Slight hijack here: how are they dealing with tractor trailers? Those things are way noisier than your basic aftermarket pipe.

I think, that there are noise reg's on the books...but most of the trucks stay out of downtown area and are for the most part during the day. For the motorcycles, the noise was before work (motorcycle leaving for work) or after work (motorcycles leaving bars or what ever.

With "Engine Braking Prohibited" signs. Gets you a ticket for violation of a sign or warning device.

Yeah, I have the "honor" of living about four blocks from Pagliacci's (great Italian, BTW.) I hardly EVER see anybody at the HA clubhouse. I think they just hang out there after the bars close, at which time I am not out on the roads.

One way or another, I'm feeling like me and my D&D's are being closed in on soon...

As I recall, when I was growing up in Denver in the 1950s, Pagliaccis was the hangout for the Smaldone Mafia gang. I took a girl to dinner there once-scary place back then.

You're thinkin about Gaetono's; same neighborhood. Mayor owns it now, (along with a gazillion other restaraunts,) now its just a family place.

Both excellent places, love the minestrone at Pagliacci's (though the menu is pricey)and Gaetano's has that stereotypical charm of any wise-guy joint you see on film, not to mention excellent food. Gaetano's is more of a neighborhood joint, or at least tries (and succeeds) at doing so. If anyone goes there, and can't decide what to eat, just pull some things off the appetizer menu. No compensation has been made for promotion of this product and/or service (but damzitgood).

The AMA is in the process of talking to the powers to be in Denver about the new law. Read about the AMA involement here.

It also seems that Denver is relaxing the noise limits for car and trucks in order to go after the bikes. Seems a little unfair to me. All licensed vehicles should have to adhere to the same noise requirements.

As I recall, Papa Murphy's in Littleton (just off of Broadway & W. Littleton) wasn't a bad little family run Italian joint.

Sure hope the AMA does some sense-talking!!
