I am possibly buying a 2002 TBA from another forum member and I have a question. In his description is the following:
"Put on drag bars (had to drill the triple trees to do this so the orginals will not fit anymore)."
I have only the vaguest idea what he's talkiing about and would appreciate any comments (pro & con), suggestions, warnings, encouragement, etc.
He was fun while he lasted.

Sounds like he's enlarged the holes for the riser bolts to fit aftermarket ones on which'll stop the originals working. No drama, as long as you don't want to go back to the originals.

I would think he could even go back to originals as long as he had a washer or something in there so the nut would sink into the tripple tree...

It's even possible to use a Hardley riser thats the same size as the origonal and use the origonal bars only difference would be the slightly different look of the aftermarket riser. Or like Benny said a washer would probably do it or a sleeve to bring it back to stock dia. if you have machine ability or know a machine shop to make them for you. Wouldn't cost much to have 2 sleeves turned.

They make a 1/2 inch stud that is threaded metric on one end to fit the stock risers

Yes but that stud won't help on a tree thats been drilled and that was what the poster was asking about. EDIT: I must correct myself if you threaded the metric end into the stock riser and the 1/2" end through the drilled tree problem solved. Sorry I'm tired and was asleep at the switch.

I used a sleeve around the metric bolts to take up the slack in my drilled triple trees but I'd like to find that 1/2" to metric stud for the peace-of-mind. In any event I haven't notice any play or flex in my setup. And, yes, I did use washers with a neoprene backing to give me a little shock isolation between the tree and the risers.
