These MEGA POSER events scare me. Seems like a recipe for disaster. I was at Bike Week at Daytona in 1979, and thought it was crazy back then.

Went two years ago and could only hack it for about an hour before we (4) hit the road to Mt. Washington and a tour of Rt 112 (Kancamagus Scenic Byway) Laconia? One skinny road in and an idling parade thereafter. I didn't even buy the tee shirt.

Paula, I'm going up Friday the 15th with my brothers and our wives. We'll be at the Weirs around noonish. We're going to spend a few hours there then go for a ride.

When I go, I don't spend much time at Wiers...If I want to check out the vendors and the bikes and the peoplewatching, I stop by once- get there early in the morning before the drunks crawl back out of thier holes, walk around a bit, and then skeeeeeeedaddle for riding, riding, riding.
I've found the best way in to the beach is to take the train in from either Laconia center of Meredith. Pretty view along the lake, plus you avoid the insanity of the traffic, and no worries about an overheated bike.
If I head up north, it will be the weekend of the 15th. This weekend I'm at the beck and call of my Dance Diva.

Would love to ride up and people watch with ya Paula,I was up until the wreck planning to drag Sandy up for a day but right now and for the next few weeks anyhow my left arm is useless,

I agree, and that is why a few of us broke away from the pack this last Bike Week and held a cookout at my house. You aren't going to ride much during these events, so you might as well be with friends. Certainly worth the effort to brave the masses at least once or twice in a lifetime. They never really change from year to year, so eventually, it is a been there, done that type of experience. Rather be hoisting a few with my BA.com family.

I use to live in Rochester, not to far from Route 16. I love the Meredith/Laconia/Alton Bay/Wolfboro areas of NH (basically the Ossipee Mtn/Lakes region). I have lived in 7 different states and that part of NH is still my favorite. I never did make it to Laconia during Bikeweek. Maybe someday in the future.

Tom, I always love seeing Mt. Chocura in the distance (over the water) when I'm riding that area. That bald mountain has something to say.... For several years I stayed in a chalet in Wolfboro, during my shovelhead days.
And there's that yuuuuuummmmmmmyyyy BBQ place, that's Ossipee, right?
And Crawford Notch- wheeeeeee!!! I've ridden up Mt. Washington as a passenger, on my list to do on my own bike.
And the cut through road between the Kancamagus Highway and Bartlett...
Jack- are you and Sandy thinking of taking the drive up? If you and she are looking for accomodations, I'd be glad to make a few recommendations.

I assume you mean the Yankee Smokehouse. Still there and still good. From there you can hit 2 great bike roads the Kanc, which in my mind is too crowded or hit Rt 153 towards wakefield and then peel off into Maine, the roads are empty and everyone drives fast.

Lets plan a ride through the Kangamangus down to Route 16 and then south to the Yankee Smokehouse. Maybe do that the morning of the 15th and then end up at the Weirs for an hour or 2.

Paula, While I hear what everyone's saying,(been there, done that) Laconia holds beautiful memories for me. My late wife and I went up there every year. Then my brother and I went up until his death. My friends and I camp at Gunstock 'till wednesday then move over to my friend's place in Wolfboro, on Winnapasaki, until I can't take any more. I'll PM you with my cell #. If you get up there, and feel so inclined, give me a call. We go on real cool rides every day; my friends are locals and know their way around.

by all means an absolutely beautiful locale. i went for three years in a row. in the morning i'd look to see which way everyone was going, then say, ok. let's go the other way. i love riding up there--just can't do the crowd thing anymore.
my first time there i stayed from mid-bike week, through Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. that was great. see the crowd, see them leave, then basically have the roads to yourself...ahhhhh.

Hey Mikey! Come on up and we'll ride! I got the bike running again and the porch swing still works fine. I won't make you carry any more boxes, really!

Hey Paul- I know what you mean about the special memories. I've gone probably 13 times over the 21 years of my sobriety. When I was with and then married to my daughter's Dad, we had a camper, would trailer up the bikes and camp on some undeveloped property his family owned right on Winnesquam with a group of good friends- great riding during the days, and big belly laughing by the fire every night.....other years, other groups of friends, other laughing till the tears roll down my face, "coincidentally" running into folks I hadn't seen in years at gas stations, restaurants, or at Wiers, and then spontaneously sharing rides and favorite roads- like mert says heading in the other direction....
If I can shake free, I'd love to hook up with BA.com folks. The Yankee Smokehouse, Kanc and 153 ride is calling my name....the 15th?

I would say pass on the Kanc during bikeweek it will be packed. Backroad it up to the smokehouse and then hit 153 down it would be a great ride.

There is an old Indian legend regarding Mt. Chocura and the reflexion lake below. I won't go into it here but it is an interesting legend. I have canoed in the lake and hiked to the top of Mt. Chocura. The hike was very interesting, since we did it in mid November. Started out at the bottom with a slight breeze in the mid 40's, and at the top it was blowing at 60mph with gusty up to 80mph with it being maybe 0 degees. The view at the top of Mt. Chocura was well worth the hike.

I agree that if you are going to Laconia just to ride around and see the scenery then it's a wonderful place to ride. I was speaking of the event. Thats a waste of time and traffic that'll cook any motor. Mt Washington is a good ride.

Just made my plan...I'm going to be staying with my sister, brother-in-law and neices in Wakefield on Lake Ivanhoe. They're camping, I'm B&Bing. We're going up the 14th, staying till Sunday the 17th. Let the exchange of cell numbers begin!

GRRRRRRRRRRRR....I'm out. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has decided to move a deadline on a project I'm working on, I now need to work on Thursday, possibly Friday as well. Why the world doesn't revolve around New England's short riding season is a very large cosmic blunder.

I could probably pull off a weekend meetup. I just have to spend a little more time at the office then I have been. The Wife is headed to Conn on Sunday afternoon, so Sunday would work well for me.
And I don't have my speedy but I do have a bike, so ride on.

OK, here's my plan. I'm staying overnight in Wakefield. Going to the Miss Wakefield diner for breakfast and then up Rt 153 to Route 25 and over to Moultonboro to hookup with my brothers. If anyone is going up to the Weirs PM for my cell #.
