For some inexpensive grunt I was thinking of 16T sprocket for my 06 Speedy. Does anybody know if the chain must be shortened or if I will be able to adjust out the extra slack?

Should be able to adjust it, unless your adjuster is all the way back already. Welcome to the forum.

The owners manual says it has an 18T stock. Anyways, thank you all for the responses. I'm ordering one.

If it's a speedy and you haven't checked youy might want to pull the cover and double check to be sure it isn't a 16 already.

My 04 SM came stock with the 19, and the highway RPM's were way too high for comfort so I installed a 16 tooth and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! Still have lots of power in all gears, but the RPMS at 70 mph are comfortable now! Every man has their own opinion. Good luck with whatever you choose!
Best looking black girl around!

Somebody had changed it. In '04, SMs came with a 16. No options.

That would actually be inverse: 19 tooth would lower your RPM in all gears and there would be less oomph across the powerband. The 19 is a taller gear resulting in a lower RPM at higher MPH.

Zakly - The 16 is for stump pullin'. And it will. I have a 17 or 18 I've tried, but the 16 is my fav. If gas prices keep rising I may look for one with more teeth than Marie Osmond.

mine came with a 16 and I love it. I cruise highway at a constant 80 with no problem at all. And can out drag most any Hardley I have come up against. My top end is well over 100 too so I see no reason to go with a larger sprocket unless I was doing most all highway then I might so I run a lower RPM for comfort.
