My header pipes are in bad shape.Is there any alternative for replacing the pipes other than Triumph. I have new Thunder Pipes from the headers back. They are nice and shiny. thanks, Pete

Options as I understand them;
1. Buy new Triumph (no known aftermarket)($$$$$)
2. Buy salvaged (Pot Luck)($$$)
3. Chrome Plating ($$$$$)
4. Ceramic Coating ($$$$)
5. Tape Wrap ($)
6. High Temp paint ($)
7. Ride like the wind and don't look down (Free of charge)

Are we talking to remove blueing?
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger......and then it hit me.

Alert the media!!! This is the first time I've disagreed with you.  Our headers are shrouded with a stainless steel pipe. I've checked with a magnet (stainless will not stick to a magnet, unless heated to over 1200°F). My rare earth magnet has to be pryed off my frame, but barely sticks to the header pipe (being attracted to the inner carbon steel pipe). As many times as I've ground on my headers with surface conditioners and jeweler's rouge, the chrome plating would have been erased several years ago.
I still agree with you on partying and drinking though.

Mine was. Down to the copper... I don't know if Triumph made both chromed ones and stainless, but mine sure were chromed. Hence my coating job with Cermachrome.

Cool. So is jeweler's rouge the quickiest way to remove blueing? I have semichrome and with a cloth and rubbing by hand it hasn't touched it. I don't fell like rubbing on my pipes for 4-5 hours.

Skillet- Maybe the "old" bikes had SS. Mine are chrome.

I've heard people insist on both chrome and SS... I'm starting to wonder if there are both floating around?

I seem to agree. There are those who are convinced each way.
I have a '04 SM and a magnet will not stick to the header pipes, but will stick to everything thereafter.
The magnet test isn't always conclusive on SS because some grades have enough ferrous content to be magnetic - But - A magnet will ALWAYS stick to CS.
So, I'm gonna say mine are SS

Oh Yeah?  My pre-fire header pipes are NOT s/s. Forget the magnet. Just look at them sometime.

I choose number 7!
Bill Miller in Lynchburg Virginia told me a long time ago (after the 05 Nor'East Rally) that he was going to bend some s/s headers. My headers pipes function great, they just aren't sweet sixteen looking anymore as they look like they've been rode hard and put up wet way too many times. I have never bothered to call Bill about header pipes.
