Buy a Sears motorcycle jack, well worth it. They have them on sale for about $70. Even use mine when washing the bike. Well worth it.

I don't know if they are still around, I bought mine some years ago. It is a CenterStand from Shula Enterprises. It is a rectangular shaped device with a long handle. You simply place it under the motorcycle and push the lever to the ground, and it sits there securely with the rear wheel in the air. I originally bought it for a very heavy Honda VTX 1800. It is light, easily stored, and you have the bike up in seconds. Again, I am not sure if they are still made.

Jet makes a great bike lift, model JMJ-1500; I got mine through Amazon.com for around $100 and it's incredibly useful.

Depending on just what your needs are I think a simple stand like that mentioned is worth looking at. I have a sears stand which is handy for routine maintenance and also tucking the bike into a corner for the winter. These things are heavy and unwieldy though - for chain cleaning etc something that would just pop the back wheel up would be great. The photo below from here shows one on a sportster but you would think you could verify the fit on a TBA pretty easily.

If you buy the Motorcycle trader magazine (Australian), there is a mob in Melbourne, Central Motors or Motorcycles or similar, who sell these motorcycle lifts for about A$125, I bought one a few years ago, and it cost about $30 to have it shipped to Adelaide. They are the cheapest I have seen advertised in Oz.

I'll give y'all a report on the "Bike Krutch" from Aerostitch as soon as I receive it. For my situation -- with no garage -- having a full-blown bike jack is a real pain in the arse, so I need something I can carry up/down easily. This looks like it should do the trick for basic chain maintenance. --Jaeger

The one Bill depicts is the one that I have. Although for the price perhaps a lift from Sears would be a better investment. Having said that, I can get out my center stand, and have the bike in the air in about 10 seconds from the time I grab the center stand to bring it over to the bike.

Strong Arm
That is made exactly the same as the one that was depicted and alluded to above. They work great - that one is just more colorful than mine. Having said that, remember that in order to use it, you do need to balance the bike with one hand while you push down on the lever with the other. Mine is particularly easy to use because I park my bike into an LA Chock which causes it to sit upright with the kickstand stowed. I simply put it under the bike (aft of the filter), and push down. Voila! Zee bike, she be up!
I just looked at their ad carefully. Interestingly, they claim you can lift it directly off of the side stand. Although it seems to be built exactly the same as mine, my manufacturer points out that it is not done that way - the bike must be upright. They must know what they are talking about however - even if they seemingly cater to the Hardly crowd.
I'm intrigued by it even though its the same price as a good pair of rear/front stands.

The strong arm works EXACTLY like the roll-your-own from a 2X8.

As an after thought and if you don't mind paying lots of postage... I have one of these It's like the others with the one exception....it has bolts that go through the eyes on the frame. No chance of rolling off. But is heavy and will be expensive to post to oz...

ok....that's not my Speedmaster.... I have more taste!!! It's a company in Mexborough UK, and they make stands for all sorts of bikes. They have one for the 'normal' Bonnie/Thruxton. They sell them normally through eBay.. so here's the link for the eBay page. I didn't get it through eBay though. I bought it of Grip when he sold his SM for something else....
