Hi everyone. I have always had Triumph or BSA but this is my 1st with the new ones. I have a 04 TBA,even though the older models had a valve tick that you just had to live with(along with other problems)I was wondering if this was normal with the TBA? So much to learn before working on the new ones , I hope it is easier. Thanks alot Kevin

Well Kevin, my first Triumph and the ticking always makes me squirm, but from what I hear it is the norm for the beast. I just rolled on 7200 miles last night and I have only had my bike for 11 months and I live in the snow belt. Still running smooth and strong (except for teh ticking) ed

Thanks Ed. I live in a area where(as far asI know)I have the only new style Triumph ,So I rely on this site and it has save my ****** many times. I just got back from dealer(2.5 hrs. one way, bike is running good so who cares) had to get new petcock for gas tank, stock one siezed. The guys there are great , got to check out alot of bikes to compare mine to. Used kit and got rid of AI , have TOR pipes and popping was driving me nuts. Popping is gone now and bike is running perfect. Thanks to this site and all of you. Kevin

The switch from iron heads to alloy for the Tiger 100 had also introduced to the discerning, a noisy valve gear. This was cured in part by the introduction of cams with quietening curves, engines fitted with 'ramp' cams have a small compass like wheel mark after their engine numbers, the iron engines mechanically speaking are as quiet as the grave.
Our modern twins although a bit loud should not sound as noisy as the old 650s. If they do the valve clearances should be checked.
