At a dead stop, How long, in seconds, can you balance your bike with both feet on the pegs/boards.....Counting from when both feet are on the pegs.... one, two, three seconds, more? No bragging, just how long?

Falling over isn't cool, so I can't say that I've ever given this much thought. I'd guess two or three at most.

This was a question posed to me by an officer of the law as he stopped me for failing to stop at a stop sign, on a country road in the middle of rural BFE, NC......

I NEVER put my feet down. It's called perfect balance.

Depends. Some days I think I can balance indefinitely and other days it's all I can do to get my feet down the instant I stop. Most days are somewhere in between.

To keep from having discussions like the one you had, I always put a foot down, a quick dab, even when I don't completely stop. Makes it look like a legal stop, if they aren't too close. But to answer your question, about 4-5 seconds at most.

I can balance longer if I can go back and forth, but I can't find reverse.

Heck, that's nothing! I can balance a stationary bike, AND can even simultaneously place either foot in my mouth for hours on end while doing it!!! (over the years I've had much practice in this regard, as you may know)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

How do you keep them on the pegs?

Long enough to come to a complete stop at a traffic signal/sign on my old Honda Shadow; I'll have to practice my skills on the TBA to match that. All the same it couldn't have been more than 3 seconds tops on my best day. Of course, some days biking is just like slipping on an old pair of favorite trousers and some days I have to really concentrate on what I'm doing. Must be getting old...

You mean I'm supposed to lift my feet off the GROUND while riding? No wonder I go through so many pairs of boots.
Remember; no matter where you go, there you are.
