Welcome to the site Wayne. If you buying a new bike there is no difference in performace of the two bikes. I don't think resale value varies to any degree either. Both are great bikes, if you feel the America is more comfortable, buy it. You should buy the one YOU like best. All the add on accessories are interchangible. I love riding my bike around town and on the highway. If you end up riding with all Harleys, like I do, you'll enjoy get all the attention everywhere you go.
